Is it ok to get cremated? I know the Bible says all dead believers shall rise again with new imperishable bodies. But Jesus says follow my example and He wasnt cremated. Im confused, can someone clarify? I dont think anybody was ever cremated in the Bible :/

Tbh I would stay away from it, God made us to be returned to the ground for a reason. I have seen ghosts and heard them, I have an actual haunted house. they are mostly Pranksters if you don't give them any attention they move things or something. I don't know how ghosts come to be but I wonder if cremation is a good way to do it? would your soul be in unrest if it was not returned to the ground?

What you must consider is that countless people have died in fiery deaths, and many martyrs were burned. We receive new bodies in Heaven. I personally feel that cremation is okay. God is powerful and all-knowing enough to put every ash together to raise the body to give a new body, if that is the way it will happen. If not, as I mentioned, we get new bodies anyway. :)

I don't like the idea of cremation. I used to think that it didn't really matter, as God will raise us up, whether cremated or buried. But the patriarchs were careful to give instructions on where to be buried, and even had their bones moved with their descendents.

I think historically, the pagans burned their dead, while the Christians buried theirs. I'd sooner go with the Christian tradition, if for no other reason than I trust that the Christians before me were wiser than I, culminating in the wisdom of Christ.

I feel like it's a cultural thing. Whether buried or cremated, the body returns to dust. In the end, physically, there isn't any difference. I've not seen scripture forbidding cremation. I'd be open to changing my view if there were supporting references, but otherwise I say that it won't matter in the last days how your earthly remains were handled.

Jesus example for us was his life, not his death. He was also beaten beyond recognition of human form and crucified. That doesn't mean we have to do the same thing.

I don't see any instructions in the bible on how to deal with bodies. In Jesus' day they sealed a body in a crypt and allowed it to decompose. Then much latter they collected the bones and placed them in a stone box called an osshuary. The cultural norm for Americans was to simply bury the body. Today about 20% of Americans are cremated. I see nothing wrong with cremation.

There is a new type of cremation called water cremation. The body is dissolved by a lye solution, except for the bones. The dissolved body is flushed into the sewer. The bones are crushed and given back to the family members. It is cheaper and greener than regular cremation. Even so I find it disrespectful to simply flush the dissolved body down the sewer.

Everyone has good points, I have never read anything in the Bible that speaks against it but I havent seen anything for it as well. @ Ugly I have to disagree with you on that one. Jesus says " pick up your cross and follow me" I take that as reguardless if your getting mocked, beaten, or even killed in the name of the Lord you follow Him. And many people in thoses days and even today get beaten badly in certain countries for following Christ.

Sometimes cremation is needed and the best option it is much more affordable, but during times of plague it was needed as a way to dispose of the dead that harbored disease.I don't see it as mattering much, since once you die the body just becomes a empty vessel.

Ewww. I find it disrespectful, too. :D

I think the thing you can take from these posts, wit2Christlv, before going ahead with either cremation or burial, is to first have them make sure you are actually dead.

This is so funny, not haha funny, odd funny. I have thought about cremation, and have never been satisfied with whether it is Biblical or not...........and here is a thread on it....... :)

From everyone I've talked to, and reading this thread.........what I believe is the majority opinion is that it doesn't matter, for God is able to raise all from the dead...................regardless of how their earthly remains were disposed of.......

BUT THAT SEWER thing? No way dude!

I was considering cremation simply based on financial reasons, and the removing of responsibility of those left behind to deal with that whole Funeral service thing.........It can be a real torture........especially as a loved one has just passed away.

But, as I consider it, I am leaning towards the traditional way of burial.......mostly because the idea of being cremated brings to mind the image of the Lake of Fire.............. :)

So, still not 100% decided, but definitely leaning towards burial.......(worm food, not charcoal.......)

I'd prefer a nice hot compost pile. You'd decompose naturally in just a few days if it's a quality mixture.
