Do you think it is okay to add cussing in a Christian book, movie, or anything like that. Not like the heavy words such as the F-word, but would you add curse words for the sake of realism or use it to really convey something. I ask because I just wanted to your opinions, Would you and why, or , no, you wouldn't and why?

Christians should strive to hold their tongue, so I'd say no.

Unless crap is a curse word, in which case I'm a very bad man...

I would say, don't make a habit of it. Pray about it, see what God says. I know of some who've done so and they have a few choice words spread throughout their novels. They weren't condoning swearing and it most certainly wasn't gratuitous in any way. Besides, grannies and soccer mom-types aren't the sort that read gritty novels by Christians. Again, pray about it, see what God says.

I really do not see any need to use cuss words. I think people can get their points across without the need of those words.
To say it is done for "realism" I think is a cop out.

I have pondered this myself. I like writing for the fun of it and wanted to write a story based on one of my friend's life. Problem is he loves to use profanity. Every other word is profane. If I wanted to really portray someone like that in a book, should I? I have no clue. It'd be hard if you're trying to capture a character such as my friend and avoid the use of profanity. Although I have seen some Christian authors avoid it by just simply saying things like, "And he let out a few wrong choice words slip out." But I really don't know. Like the comments suggested before, ask God.

First, you need to realize there is a difference between cussing and swearing, however in America, it is sometimes hard to tell and boils down to context. Cussing is considered the poor or uneducated man's language; swearing/cursing is making/taking an oath against/for someone/something. Swearing and cursing are verbal agreements that, to God, hold just as much weight as a signed agreement in court.

Ephesians 4:29 - Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

James 3:9-12 - With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

That being said, I suggest avoiding the usage of such language. There are ways to imply foul language in writing - "Ross let loose a volley of obscenities"; I do not recommend anything audible - so nix it for music, plays, or a movie.
