This thread has actually made me want to take my bike for a ride. I've been working out like mad the last couple of weeks too. :rolleyes:

So, latest news from the e-bike front: After months of looking into this and that, including how to make my own battery pack out of individual cells and what the best kind of copper foil would be for the battery pack... I found out about all-in-one bike hubs. The motor, controls and battery are all right there in the hub. Just take the bike's front wheel out and put the new motorized wheel in.

Why didn't anybody tell me about this BEFORE I spent two months on Google?!!

I went cheap and got an iMortor wheel for two reasons. One, the other kinds were more than twice the price. Two, the expensive wheels have a battery that is inside and will stay inside, so when the battery gets old you have a useless, heavy front wheel. The iMortor wheels have battery packs you can pop out and pop a new one back in. In addition to replacing an old battery, this also makes it scalable. Where one (very small, actually) battery pack won't get you very far, you can always add more batteries.

I also went cheap on the bike and got a Huffy from Wal-Mart. Now before anybody gets huffy with me about it, I did it for a good reason. The pull from the electric wheel is from the front, and a more expensive (lighter) bike might wear out the front forks that way.

I took it out Wednesday to thoroughly test it, and wheeeeee! It makes climbing hills a breeze! Which is a good thing, because making hills easier is exactly what I got it for. I can handle level ground for ages, but hills wear me out.
