To be honest the same thing happens here on CC.

Start a thread about alcohol, gays, denominations, bible version etc and it
gets many pages long.

But try to discuses a bible verse or bible principle and you might get a few
responses maybe even 10 replies. That's unless it get contentious and arguments start,
then it goes on forever. But the original concept is lost.

ive tried to start several such threads but they just quickly disappear as no one is
interested. I know others have as well.

The longest threads on CC are the argumentative ones, or a few casual chatty ones
where everyone agrees to keep them casual and chatty - like speak your mind etc.

I'm with you on this as I've had the same experience. It shows the fruits of the spirit of those who participate and what they're actually interested in getting involved in. We're all called to grow with Jesus, we're all just at different places in the journey.

often, you can try to discuss what a passage says,

and then it is quickly followed by someone's long interpretation of why the passage didn't mean what it said.

then the brass knuckles come out, spiritually speaking.

You say people aren't turned off by Jesus? Really? Tell that to Jesus. I think He'll tell you otherwise.
I hear what you are saying but what I meant is that sometimes what people are reacting to is not Jesus but the person who is talking about Jesus. Yes you are right that many were offended by him. I have heard people with no joy, no love and no kindness say that they gave "those" people, the great unwashed a chance by talking at them and if they didn't immediately agree then they had rejected Jesus. My point was that we need to live the gospel to be believed. Yes I know that no one believes except by the Holy Spirit but we have a duty to give more than words. Are we really being representatives of Christ in our lives? If they are not coming from a place of love then our words are worthless (1 Cor.13) and it is not Jesus that is rejected but us as well we should be.

I remember your thread on about what the bible says about women rulers, asking if anyone had anything from the bible to share on it. I remember being interested too, posting that Id like to learn more about it, but got no responses. And one member even quoted my post, said all the exact same things I did, but responded by correcting me and teaching me a lesson with the exact same thoughts I had expressed in my post, which I think was due to them not reading it through but assuming my stance because I said Id like to know what God had to say about it : p`

People will generally react more to things that make them upset, I think. When I see a post about "why Christians should accept and approve of homosexuality", you can be sure Im gonna respond to it, yeah.

YB,
your analysis is true in one way and not in another. a lot of people are just un-knowing and curious,
but have no one to trust...

In my experience, speaking the word with a non believer produces nothing. It seems we don't speak or hear the same. Motives are different and perspective also. Encouraging one another in faith seems to be why we speak. Try to recall what you would hear before believing. That's what they hear now.
