It's truly amazing how many things in which we have found the Boogie Man.

I worked with Sex Offences for 24 years, and it blew my mind how many parents went out of their way to make sure they convinced their children how horribly fouled up their lives would be from now on due to some of those unfortunate situations.
I guess I was thinking about how gruesome some of those originals really are, in light of them being children's stories. It's ironic.

I don't know if you were meaning the fairytales would do the same or exactly what you meant. Doesn't matter. I just thought we were sharing thoughts on those old tales and stories. What I thought was so innocent as a child, likely because it was presented to me by trusted parents, I later find out were really different than the cleaned up versions I was read. Odd. :)

I think it's an example of the way we have learned to look for the negative in so many things. Sometimes we don't even know we are doing it again.
That thought did come up for me after I posted that comment. I left it and figured I was just overthinking. I thought it was an interesting quip about the origin of those rhymes. It wasn't meant to call out anyone. I guess TinTin might have thought it was calling out someone, with the remark he made. I know no one was promoting paganism and so does anyone else who read this thread. Maybe we are all too afraid to have a finger pointed at us that we find ourselves looking for accusations of a lack of faith? I don't know. I just know I didn't mean it that way.

Exactly. Even way back then we tried to accentuate the negative and frightening, to keep people in line... in this case they were making sure they got indoctrinated to the concept of being afraid at a very young age.

Went to Popeye's tonight, and I ordered white meat, while my wife ordered dark. I quipped to the cashier that I was Jack Sprat, and this was my wife.

Well, she was too young to have any idea what I was even talking about.... so she told us she was glad to meet us, and told us her name. I felt like a total Turkey.

My wife said, "That'll teach you to keep your mouth shut."

Of course, it dawns on me that many of you kids here are completely in the dark about this, too.

I know who you're talking about. I would have laughed when she introduced herself, that's funny.

The Grimm Fairy tales are really creepy. The original Cinderella really is so different from the Disney one, When the Steps Sister's chop off a toe and a heal to fit into the shoes.
