Time passed, and I kept reading about it... and I have realized that, scripturally, not every believer will experience that gift... just as every believer will not experience prophecy, or knowledge, or healing..... these are all individual gifts given to us as the Spirit sees the need.
For someone who jumped in the discussion wanting to catch up on some of the jargon, you really didn't enter in emptyhanded :) Nice to meet you 'hornetguy! Are you a beekeeper?

LOL... I've been asked a bunch of things about my "handle" but that is a first.... I've had people ask if I flew Super Hornet jets, etc...
Actually, I use the same handle on a bunch of gun/shooting forums... it's because of my affection for the .22 Hornet cartridge... a wonderful, small, efficient cartridge that is a joy to load for and shoot...

The "jargon" issue was because I had not heard several of the terms being used, regarding tongues and prophecy... much the same way I get when discussions about "are you an Arminian, or Argentinean, or whatever it is they are discussing... I generally just discuss beliefs with people, without trying to pigeonhole them into some named group, so those terms can sort of throw me... you know, old dog, new tricks....

Whoa, :) ''Pending'' Ha! Not too bad at all. Especially considering how continued search for confirmation could turn into doom for some ''A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” (Matthew 16:4)
Paul said to Confirm, and so I do. I don't "Search" for confirmation, I simply recognize it when it comes.

Any thought that glorifies God will only be from God. Satan surely will not give you a vision or dream, or tongue to glorify the Lord. I run the test if what I say or I think glorify the Lord, then it is from the Lord or Soirit of the Lord.

If you have spoken in tongues before, please share your experience here and how you were able to receive such gift.
I was at a morning men’s meeting and some men got around and prayed over me and laid hands on me. I felt little phrases coming up and when I said them it was a whole flood of phrases. I was pumped up for at least two days. Never been the same since.

A Pentecostal Preacher’s Experience

‘’In 1937 there was more reproach connected with speaking in tongues than there is today, although in some quarters even today religious prejudices still exist. People become proud of their name, and my family felt I had disgraced our name.

When I was filled with the Holy Spirit I didn’t say one word to my family; I didn’t even invite them to go to Church with me. I felt in my spirit that if I would just live right and not try to push anything off on them, the reality of the baptism in the Holy Spirit would become obvious to them and they would follow me in this New Testament experience.

And in the course of time, every one of my family members did receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, including both of me brothers and my sister, and even my nephews and nieces.

Later the folks beyond my immediate family followed me in that experience, too, because they could see the difference in my life. My aunt, my mother’s youngest sister, held out the longest. She felt that I had really disgraced her. She was a great church worker, but there is a difference between being a church worker and being a Christian.

In 1950 my aunt came to vivsit us. I wasn’t there, but my mother and wife were. My aunt said to my mother, ‘’You know, there’s just a difference in this home. I get blessed spiritually every time I’m here, and I feel comfortable and blessed. There’s a peace and tranquility in this home. I felt Kenneth had disgraced us, but, you know, I believe he made the right move. I’m going to begin attending his church.’’ And she did. She also said, ‘’Not only that, but I’ve watched him over the years. His children are never sick, , very seldom a cold but nothing more serious than that.’’

You see, the thing that influenced my aunt and made her begin attending a Full Gospel church (which she vowed she would never do) was the profiting she saw in my life.’’ – Kenneth E. Hagin

Can't say the same as a hernia operation a few years ago set me back a bit due to the size. Now, I'm retired and still go day-to-day with no meds, glory to God! :)

I do speak in tongues. I recieved the gift when I was baptized by the holy ghost. It was given to me, "let him have tongues for evidence of the holy spirit." was the prayer.

It flows through me at will. I never know what the holy spirit is saying. Sometimes he sings.
Sometimes the holy spirit gives me a calling to speak.

In my teachings I know that the holy spirit will pray for other people. Pray for me. Pray for family. I have heard people getting gifts from speaking in tongues.

So last night, I prayed in a prayer language unknown to me. The moment I tried to raise my voice my natural English tongue would crowd out the prayer language. I went with it and just kept praying in almost a whisper in this prayer language for as long as I was being led by the spirit, in all, maybe 5 minutes or so. I don't know what was said, but tears were running my cheeks as I my eyes were closed and I was in my prayer closet.

Now you be careful with it. Sometimes a demon will try and speak from you. They have done it me. My Pastor Pat Holliday told me about it, and it happened to me in front of her.

A preposterous post. Jesus made it quite clear though we walk with a flawed nature, when He gives the Spirit, it will be without question the Holy Spirit (Luke 11:11-13). Sorry to sound so uncharitable, but this just isn't the biblical idea of being ''careful''.

See, I disagree with that concept.... if someone starts babbling for some reason, and has no clue what he/she is saying, and gets no
spiritual benefit, other than a warm fuzzy, then I would be really concerned about demonic influence.
Tongues are for our spiritual edification, if I read scripture correctly.
I strongly believe we should absolutely be sure of authenticity if we are to give control of our minds and speech over to another entity.

That is why I believe that only a relatively few people actually receive the Spiritual gift of tongues... scripturally, it's not for everyone, just as prophecy is not for everyone.... or any of the other gifts from the Spirit. The Spirit of God gives us what gifts we NEED to benefit the body of believers...
If one is saved they are indwelt with the Holy Spirit. That saved person belongs to Jesus. Their “babbling” will not be influenced or possessed by demons. When you belong to Jesus, no one can swipe you from the hand of Jesus.
“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand”. (John 10:28-29)

I recieved the gift of the tongues many years ago, just after I had been saved. I was fourteen. I had heard the tongues in church and I wanted to also speak in tongues but didn't understand them and didn't know how and so I asked Jesus for it. I was praying to him one day, on my own during a quiet time. I went into a deep pray and suddenly I started speaking in tongues. Only a few words at first. It just came out as I was praying. Now after all these years I can sing in tongues and pray in tongues when in worship. It feels more of a direct prayer from my heart to Jesus. Like a declaration, when I am deep in worship to Him.
Obviously there are the other type of tongues which are a message from Jesus to someone or a group of people. The person using that tongue is normally speaking to a group of people out loud. There will be an interpreter afterward. I haven't had that tongue yet. I have heard it in church. The voice is usually very direct.
One gentleman I used to sit near, usually a man of few words suddenly one Sunday during worship boomed out a whole lot of words in an African tribal sounding language in such a loud voice. Everyone jumped and listened. It was shortly followed by an interpretation by someone else.
I just received the gift of tongues last week. As it happened, I praised the Lord in tongues! As for now, I believe I am to use it in prayer every day between myself & my Lord. I consider myself a prayer warrior & I believe that this gift is for intercession. However I did tell the Lord I would love to be able to sing to him in this new tongue. It was the next day as I was praying, it turned into singing, worshipping my Heavenly Father! He is so good & is worthy of All glory! 🙌

We are faced with sin but that doesn't mean a Christian will give in to it. How can a Spirit-filled believer have strongholds from demons? The Holy Spirit in us equips us with discernment that throws up red flags on evil lures✝🙌 It is true some Christians still make bad choices though, if they favor a trend more than the truth, not helpful for them.

I was justified when I was 17, over the years and often on I had an addiction to pornography. At one point I just gave up, but it wasn’t until I went back to church. I was able to break that stronghold.. so I know for a fact that can happen. Even Derek Prince teaches on this..

True as I just mentioned we can give into the flesh if we're not strong in the Holy Spirit. I was a backslider for a number of years, not fully committed or aware of being dedicated to the Lord in ALL things. God always helps when we cry out to Him🙏🙌

So I’m thinking you are curious about gift of tongues & it’s understandable. There’s also a gift of discernment - it is available to all Christians so that we can discern & not be deceived.
If one is saved by Jesus they have the Holy Spirit in them. Praise the Lord I belong to Jesus. I rest in Him without fear. In 1 corinthians 12 Paul talks about the Gifts of the Spirit. These are gifts of the HOLY Spirit not of other spirits. I hope this helps. God Bless.

Yes, just as you say yet, not totally. For how much of an assembly did the Apostle have to go to when excilled to the island of Patmos before writing the book of Revelation?

I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.
