I'm laughing over this whole thread.

I have a phone. It's a landline. I use it when I need it. I have an answering machine to see if I want to take calls when they come in. I also have caller ID, although most people change their phones so often, I usually get a name of a state or "unavailable" even when I know the person. It is for my convenience.

It's pretty cool. You can actually talk in it and the person on the other end talks back. Much faster and easier than typing. Much, much faster and easier than typing with just thumbs. That Alexander Graham Bell dude was smart.

And now, folks are taking their phones everywhere to get calls... oops, messages from people they don't know that well, memes, because who can't use a meme every other minute, and to learn that your best friend is shopping on aisle six and can't figure out if she should buy Gold Medal or King Arthur flour. And who will go to the gym with you on Saturday, because certainly no one can do that by themselves. And who showed that gorgeous photo of a salad on FB. And what is that bare spot on the elbow of a dog called and should I take my dog to the vet because it's on the dog's elbow. And so-and-so just bought Kleenex tissues on Amazon. And my cousin's friend's brother just used a groupon in Culpeper, VA. And the nephew just went to a drive-in in St. Louis. And who knows what else we can learn, so no one has time to talk when they go out together at a diner. Because, heaven forbid, I miss that my sister took her dog out for a walk!

I know. If hubby forgets to tell which kind of pasta he wanted when I go to the store, he actually gets stuck with what I guessed, but guess what. We survived the wrong pasta!

When did phones master humans?

awesome post Lynn,

but most won't get IT, because they have become IT and are content to let themselves
be the IT on the end of the IT line...
