saved by the bell? rumor has it that people were put in coffins with a means to ring a bell in case the impending burial was a bit precipitate. thus that particular expression.
Sometimes, it was a false alarm. Which is where the saying "he is a dead ringer" came from. (e.g. "He was a dead ringer" for Lynx).

Oh, this is a good idea actually. I know this has existed for a few centuries but never thought of it.

Which one will you choose for your burial?
Thank you. I don't think I will really care which hat I will wear for my burial. Many of the most noble of the Christian martyrs were buried in ways that could never hope to beautify the damage they had endured in life. More important to me are the words of He who greets me in the next life. I hope to hear "Well done, good and faithful servant", although knowing I do not deserve such.
