I really wish the ignore function worked properly... That I can still see the ignored person's posts is most trying. :(

I believe one should exercise caution when choosing any genre movie to watch. Some horror films portray valuable moral lessons if you pay close attention to the storyline instead of being diverted by the violence. So what if there’s bit of murdering and exaggeration in it, big deal. The problem is when people practice the violence they see on these movies due to their inability of distinguishing between reality and fantasy. Some these people have mental issues to begin with.

I wouldn’t say all horror movies are evil to watch and that all of the producers have bad intentions, however there are some producers whose intent is to glorify occultism i.e. witchcraft, Ouija board, vampirism. Some of these films depict sheer Satanism and are just meaningless that you cannot even extract any valuable lesson from them rather they are gateways to satanic oppression.

Okay, This is coming from someone who watched Chucky when I was 8 years old, and was taken to see Halloween H20 that same year, thanks to my Dad. He is a huge horror movie buff and keeps his Halloween decorations up all year round. Any movie- The Exorcist, Darkness Falls, every zombie movie, I was subject to them before I truly knew what they were. This left me with night terrors up until I was about thirteen. Then I started watching them on my own, and even though I should have been immune to them, they still scared the crap out of me. No matter who you are, your imagination is a powerful thing, especially given the right circumstances. Not to mention, the images and different things that seep into your subconscious. That type of stuff is unavoidable.

Whether horror movies are being used for a higher evil, or if it's just to top the last scary movie released, the point is we should not want to see them. Yeah, it's fake, they're actors, and everything is only a set with props.

It doesn't matter.

We shouldn't subject ourselves to something that emulates so much evil and glorifies killing. Sure, I used to love getting a good thrill just as much as the next person, but why would I want to pollute my mind with that trash?

We can say all we want that we have control over it, that it doesn't matter or is only fantasy, but the truth is we cannot control what our subconscious absorbs. What we experience and see will be in our minds forever and although I've seen a lot, I don't want anymore junk getting up in there. It numbs our feelings toward, torture, killing, abuse, and all of those terrible things.
Think about it, we read about a two year old boy who gets his hands super-glued to a wall and beaten by his mother, just because he had an accident. She was trying to teach him how to be potty trained. We scroll past that, feel bad, but not to much later we don't pay it any mind because our attention is directed toward something else.

Think about it people! A TWO YEAR OLD IS BEATEN AND KICKED IN THE STOMACH BY HIS MOTHER FOR MAKING A SILLY MISTAKE! We should be weeping for that child, be outraged, disgusted, raising awareness, doing something more. But we just let other people handle it because there are organizations for that, or what have you. Stop relying on everyone else and stand up. I am only one voice, and I may not be heard, but it still counts. Now this isn't all just because of movies, but because of the world we live in, the horrible things people are capable of, and so on. It does play a role in it though. Anyhow, I stepping off of my soapbox now.

I bid you good day.

You make a ton of good points and I completely agree with the last paragraph or so about the two year old. THe only thing i can say is i believe that some people can separate the two and not experience the negative effects you described. I mean some can and some can't. I've never experienced any negative effects from horror movies ive seen and Ive seen a lot. But im not everyone

I like old cheesy B movies, there's not even anything scary about them, they are actually hysterically funny they are so bad. Think mystery science theater. I like horror movies before the gore became a standard part of them, think Alfred Hitchcock type movies, the original psycho, the birds, twilight zone etc, you had to use your imagination to be scared, the very first Halloween movie was genius, no blood or gore, it was in the tradition of Hitchcock movies, that series got bad later when other directors tried to make them, I don't think a movie that is well done and scares you is bad, I'm just tired of the constant blood and gore in all of them, it's due to the fact that the writers and directors don't have the genius of the early movies, you don't have to think, because there are body parts flying off the screen every thirty seconds, it's a crutch for bad writing, when these movies became standard, the true scary movie died

I don't like scary movies either, I know it is fictional and there are actors. I did not even make it through The Patriot (a R movie not a horror one) I started to feel queasy and stuff. So don't call me a person who needs medical attention. I don't need it and I don't want it. But if you like to watch them, I just want to be cautious and focus on what is good and true and not on insane levels of violence or gore. Some may call me an oddball, but if my stomach says no to such movies, it is no. I tried to watch one and my friend even gave me a tip, it didn't work. Let bygones, be bygones and do not criticize me for not watching them. I have tried and could not watch them. I have had nightmares and I do have night terrors. My mom can testify to that and nothing is wrong with me. So whoever is playing that card, stop playing it. Thanks.

As far as the people who make the films, all I can say is "...for the mouth speaks out that which fills the heart." (Matt. 12:34) and "...the evil man brings out of his evil treasure what is evil." (v.35) :(
Or Mark 7: 14-15--
He began saying to them, “Listen to Me, all of you, and understand: there is nothing outside the man which can defile him if it goes into him; but the things which proceed out of the man are what defile the man.
and v.18-23
And He said to them, “Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him, because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?” And He was saying, “That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, deeds of coveting andwickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness. All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man.”

I can't abide films that contain an abundance of horror, violence, sex...any of it. (and I mean 'abide'...I can't live there. :) )
I can appreciate the logical mind of a mathematician, like Fractal_Curve, and the ability to be ever present of mind that it isn't real. I can't do that.

I also think of Eph. 5:3-4,
But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints; and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks
and Eph. 4:17-19
So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. (sounds like Hollywood ;) )
So I guess that since this type of film really bothers me, they are not the Lord's will for me. And I am thankful for the understanding He has given me in that. They encourage (mental) sins in me like fear and anger, so I just avoid them, and that's easy to do. :)

Thank you all for sharing your views on this subject. Many of you like these movies and many of you do not like these movies. There are different types of horror movies, the old ones, frankenstein, dracula, etc. There are demon possesion movies, slasher, ghost stories, and some movies are based on true stories. Some of these movies bother people and some don't. I don't think that we should critisize those people who are bothered by these movies. That doesn't seem right. I will admit that I like some horror movies myself. But something deep inside of me tells me that I shouldn't. This is the last thing that would like to say about it. Many of these movies began as a book. The book begins from a thought. The complete work is a copilation of many thoughts. Where do these thoughts come from? Not only do some viewers experiance having problems from watching these movies but there are some actors that have gone deep into the character that they portray and experiance problems afterward. Remember that satan romes to and fro seeking whom he may devour. Just because it may not be you doesn't mean that it shouldn't effect other people because it does. Satan knows that he can't destroy everybody, so he uses any device that he can to destroy whoever he can, be it movies, music, books, sex, drugs or whatever. Beloved may God bless with peace, a sound mind and good health. Love Always

I'm late to the party but I believe horror movies are combination of things. Some people are steeped in the occult and want to share their stories but I would say most of them are created to be profitable. And some of these horror stories genuinely wish to explore things unseen to teach us something - to not mess around with things that we don't understand. I think good horror is the most ripe genre for ministry. It generally concerns the supernatural realm - demons, angels, ghosts, Satan, God etc. and the questions posed therein are often metaphysical. Above all, horror movies don't shy away from the reality that people are predisposed to sin and that ultimately sin leads to death and that we need to find hope in something outside ourselves. Naturally, the genre has been sabotaged by the Enemy but there are some worthy horror movies/books etc. that glorify God (whether or not by design). God can use all things for his glory and that includes horror media.
