How am I acting like an "amateur cop?" I go on ride alongs with my friend all the time. So basically blue_ladybug is saying that the war on drugs is pointless. Well so is the war on suicide. People will always be selfish and want to kill themselves because they are weak. But people still try to help them.

I'm NOT saying the war on drugs is pointless. I AM saying that repercussions from what you did, COULD fall back on you. As for riding along with cops regularly, is that their normal protocol for civilians to ride along? Pretty sure it's not, seeing as how if the cop you're riding with gets into a dangerous situation, YOU could get caught in the middle.. I do applaud your efforts to help your friend, and get rid of her dad's pot, but you need to let the authorities handle this from here on out.

Yes it is "standard protocol." The Sheriffs department has a cadet program that I am a part of. Therefore, I ride around and perform police duties with officers.

Another detail you conveniently left out, about being a cadet. You're NOT a cop YET. You are basically a trainee. You have a lot of training to go through, alot of learning to do, AND alot of growing up to do before you can become a full-fledged cop. You told the cops about your friend's dad, now let THEM take care of it before YOU get retaliated on for being a nark.. If you think drug dealers don't get revenge on whoever rats them out, you're mistaken. Never get between a dealer and his drugs or money..

Wow, this thread turned kind of ugly. Colt, you have to do what your conscience tells you to do. Pray about it, God is listening.

If this guy is growing to sell, then that is a major crime and law enforcement would want to be informed. I know if I had children and they bought some weed from a guy that could have been stopped by a solid citizen coming forward and they didn't, I would be very upset.

Yes, there is a chance that he could find out that it was you who told but, law enforcement (at least where I live) is very sensitive about protecting the people they got information from. They would do what they could to keep the guy from find out the you were the 'narc'.

Have you talked to your friend about this? What does she say?

Well, she doesnt want me to take it to LE. And of course I understand why. But I am part of a LE Agency, even though I am a Cadet. I took an oath, and I have to uphold it.

The chance of me getting found out is slim, but it is there. And of course Im nervous about it. Im scared to death. But if I didnt think it would turn out for the better in the long run, I wouldnt even try. I have friends who are cops, and the place where he lives/deals is 2 counties away.

I told a Deputy Sheriff I trust, but he lives and works out of my county, but he said tell my county officials

I would either ask your sheriff friend to notify the county officials, or you could call crimestoppers and report it anonymously. They don't ask for your name..

Well you said you told an older adult friend. I was meaning moreso your parents or a grandparent, a greyhead. I'd still think maybe ask a non-cop elder for counsel be wise. Nevertheless, I'd be curious what your older deputy friend's counsel was.

Every one says, "Oh, not me. I wont kill anyone." "Pot is good for you." Etc, etc. Well I hope the 88,000 people that died from marijuana last year think it was good too. As for you all, you don't know what is right or wrong anymore. Your excuse is all the kids are doing it. And you better watch out, cause one day, your kids might really actually be smoking marijuana or worse. Mainlining heroin into their arms. Marijuana's the spark, heroin is the fuse, Meth is the bomb.
It is very bad, but that doesn't mean they're dangerous. A woman from church helps those addicts. She brings them to church where they are set free from it, but what can I say to an American almost cop lol. What was I thinking?

Jesus says, according to our faith let it be done. Your heart is indeed touched by this situation therefore believe in the power of prayer and lift up this man and his family in the name of Jesus, and not just once, but without ceasing. If you trust Him, your prayers will be answered.
