Here's the story.

It is a bit long, but he does get to the point eventually.
I did get he's a bit like me in that he will, eventually, get to the point... or not. But the telling is worth it no matter the result. lol

If I'm lyin', I'm dyin'.....

One of the best things about Jerry Clower is that he was an unabashed Christian, and nearly always ended his shows with about 10 minutes of very inspirational talk... there are several good youtube videos of him, and his spiritual messages.

He was one of the really good ones....
When I was a kid, we had a bunch of sayings to go with for any occasion. That was one of them. I heard others in that story. And yet, I didn't know where the sayings came from until now.

I did listen to the story, (thanks for link in PM), and follow up. Almost caught all of it, except being a Yank the English isn't my English. No idea what brogans are, (no idea if he really meant people were professional tree climbers), and I really did think the coon was up there... just higher than the lynx. And having listened to the follow up, no idea what Aunt Pet pulled out to fix Johnny. It was like listening to Greek. And no idea if Johnny was all right by the end of it.

Also, no idea if the lynx was all right either. lol
Lynn... these are brogans.... a type of shoe that people wore back then..

There's no such thing as a "professional tree climber".... that's just part of the humor..

I heard Jerry Clower say one time that he was a humorist, not a comedian.... and that the difference was that a comedian tells a funny story, and a humorist tells a normal story in a funny way. Jerry Clower told stories about normal, every-day happenings, but with really funny side notes... he saw the humor in every day life.

The story about the Chauffeur and the Professor is just classic....

I was halfway into eating my oatmeal while listening. By the time he got to the part where the chauffeur had talked the prof into trading places, I was smiling and leaning forward. Good thing I was done the oatmeal by the time he finished the sheer beauty of the speech, because I would have choked while laughing at the end. lol

He had some colorful expressions... in the coon huntin story..... "there wasn't a limb on it... for a while"

His stories about Marcel Ledbetter are just too funny....
