How do you weigh up actors 'acting' intimacy...versus real life? 2 actors in bed together, is that OK? Do you watch without any discomfort? The program Friends, is maybe a good example? Very popular with many Christians yet it could be seen to 'celebrate' multiple sexual partners, sex before marriage and the rest...Is it Ok to watch actors being intimate with each other on the screen...because it is acting? although as Christians we would not allow that behaviour ourselves? I am not trying to be controversial...I am interested, how do you 'draw' the line? and if God is watching...what is He seeing? <><

For me I seek to learn from all things good or bad in front of me, Friends It never bothered me, but can have a tendency to thwart others and singe thier conscience.
For we can't always do this, but we will know not to dispute over doubtful things, we are to recieve one who is weak in Faith not judge the one that eats all things nor despise the one that eats only vegetables. Paul said it himself that he knows and is convinced that all things are clean of itself.
So this tells me it is what I do with what is at hand that destroys a person that Christ died for and rose for to give life to or it can be used by God through us to bring home truth and belief through love
Romans 14 is a good read about this and listen for the Spirit to reveal God's love
Now I have seen this same used to others benefits, just as scripture anywhere can be used to distract away from truth
Truth is GOD just love you, you and you

I'm so elderly that maybe how I feel doesn't count, but all my kids feel like I do, too. It isn't what we learn from those shows, or feel critical about, it is just that they are talking about a different world than my reality. My grandkids, even, don't go to bed with the people they marry until they are married. Looks like very grim humor to me.

I don't even watch shows hosted by people who live with the same gender as they are, they just seem foreign to me. Or I feel sorry they have that sickness so I'm distracted with wondering about them. I enjoy, so very much, the life that God lays out for us, the other has no fun to it. But then I enjoy watching a mystery, go figure!!!

This saddens me that you think this. Your opinion is as valid and relevant as any here.

I liked "Friends" when it was on, but I don't like all the bed hopping that goes on in these shows and the implication that this behavior is "normal." For the most part, I am able to accept that these characters are not going to have the same world view or moral code as me, and am able to not be bothered too much by such things.

However, my kids occasionally watch some of today's shows, such as "New Girl," which is even worse than "Friends" regarding promiscuity. Since they would watch it at their mother's anyway, I let them watch it at my place. We've had some pretty good conversations over it, and I shared about "Three's Company," which would be considered very light nowadays, but really pushed things in its day. The whole concept of that show with the ruse of a guy pretending to be gay so that he can keep his living arrangement with his two female roommates without the appearance of hanky-panky is totally foreign to today's kids. Times have changed.

I am immune to tv having many sex partners on tv... You cannot watch much tv without the world in it... I mean this is entertainment... It is what it is; if there is nudity I quit watching. No nudity, but in bed, and you get the jist, I fast forward. Who wants to see it anyway....

Honestly, TV shows can open a can of worms....I've chosen not to watch TV because everything is about sex, sex, and more sex. Even cartoons have subtle sexual jokes. So, I've chosen to guard what I see and hear. As Christians, we should want to keep a covenant with our eyes as Job did (Job 31:1). Guarding ourselves is beneficial because it keeps us pure before God. I mean honestly if I watched two people getting it on like its no one's business and then tried to pray to God then it would probably be hard to do....
