Funerals are for the living, not the dead.

Wherever the person went, it's settled by that point.
So whether or not we use precisely correct theological terms..
well, it certainly doesn't affect the person who's departed.

But, as many have mentioned, we need to give much thought to the living, who are listening.


Personally, I try to attend as few funerals as possible.
If it's a lost person... I almost can't drag myself to go.

I'm a hospice chaplain and sometimes my patients and their families ask me to officiate the funeral services.
oofta. That must be a very hard calling to fulfill sometimes.
