Most modern day Christian music is just music for the flesh. It is made to get affect your emotions, to give you goose bumps, to make you feel happy, but it does not minister to your spirit.

It is just trash that will be burned in the fire.

Be careful of this type of music, because of it many Christians have become vain and idle, thinking that they worship God through their music. Worship is not through music, but those who want to worship him must worship him in Spirit and in Truth.

Worship Jesus and not your music. Listen to the words of Jesus and not to the words of your music. Follow Jesus, and not your music lyrics.

May Jesus bless you and keep you from idols. Amen.

But isn't it encouraged in the Bible to make a joyful sound for the Lord?

I mean, I understand what you're saying, but I think there absolutely is a time and place for music today as a form of worship so long as the lyrics are centered around God, and not man.

Does it out in in a spirit to worship God? If the answer is yes, then it's all good

Lots of people don't think anything needs to change when they're "saved."

Can't help but ask if you're really saved if nothing changes.

Music is a creation of God. It is used in heaven & the bible commands us to use it to worship Him. Now everything must line up what is in the word of God. If it goes against what is in the Word, then it is probably foolishness. Every psalm is music, they sang them not read them & some tell you what tune they were sung to.
All the psalms are inspired though some are not about God but the King, some Israel, one is a wedding song for the bride for the king.
We can get really spooky & get more into mysticism if we see evil spirits in everything.
However, if you are listening to songs about fornication, drugs & violence, how great I am/you are something stuck on the bottom of my shoe - rock, rap, r&b music - something is wrong with your convictions.

Music is merely a tool that is used by us. We can use it to appease our flesh. Or we can use it to bring remembrance and glory to the Lord Jesus Christ and what He has done for us. Remember music is conveying ideas. If those ideas aren't about the Lord then what are they? We are told in the bible to take all thoughts captive in obedience to the Lord. I hope your music helps bring you closer to the Lord, otherwise it is counter-productive in the life of a christian.

God Bless You

Ephesians 5:18-21
New King James Version (NKJV)
18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another in the fear of God.[a

You have a very good point there, just remember that only God can judge the human heart...
We can judge only conduct.
For myself I focus on His calling to obedience in my life and don't dare scold others. I may address conduct in others but I am very careful to do so with sensitivity and love. I'm not perfect but that is my goal.
As for music...
Music comes with an emotion as well as a message.
What is the emotion behind the music, is it godly or is it carnal?
That is the question.
That and to avoid the laziness of allowing music to replace worship in our own hearts between us and Christ.

I wish that were actually the question. Unfortunately too many in these 'Christian music' discussions lack any kind of foundation to contemplate that question, let alone give you an answer.

Many seem to think that if it is sold in a Christian bookstore, then it can have no purpose other than glorifying God. If it is played on a Christian radio station, then it has somehow met a criteria of holiness.

Heavy metal, hardcore, 'gangsta rap'... artists will imitate literally any secular style, throw 'Christian lyrics' on it and otherwise smart people will defend it as being godly.
