For some, within being good or becoming better...
sometimes the best thing at the moment is to do nothing while Christ is working on them
so they don't do anything bad
I understand your point, but I was referring to the type of Christians who are so proud of homeschooling their children and not drinking, smoking, or dancing. They define themselves by what they
DON'T do. And they only surround themselves with like-minded people. In that way, many Christians push for us all to be homogenized. "Look like us, talk like us, act like us, be like us." I'm not like them. They act like my divorcedness is contagious. They ignore the admonition to take care if the fatherless--like my son. They never leave their picket fence to minister to the world around them. Those are the people who annoy me most.
Jesus ministered to the outcasts. He went where
THEY lived. What would Jesus do? Here's what He did: He left his beautiful home to meet the needs of vile sinners--which we all are. It was inconvenient for Him; it was dirty; and it cost him in every way imaginable. God is not impressed with our possessions, our social status, or how perfect our family pictures look. It's what you have done "for the least of these" that matters.
