So what do you think about the Oscars having the lowest viewership in 40 years, despite having one of the longest running times that have ever happened?

I think they are out of touch with the public, for instance the "two" winners Moonlight and La La Land have 85% on rotten tomatoes by the viewers...
Hacksaw ridge has a 95%....
The Critics rate La La Land and Moonlight at 95% but Hacksaw ridge at 85%......

I didn't watch the oscars, but I am glad they lost money on them this year...

I also think that Moonlight winning after they announce La La Land was a way to combat the notion that "the Oscars are racist" from 2016.

I think the fact that it was going to be filled with liberal propaganda had something to do with it. That was a reason I didn't watch. As for the movie I didn't watch any of them sine they're not my cup of tea. But notice a lot of the movies that win or get nominated for best picture are movies the public hardly seen and make little money.

They are living in a Politically correct liberal leftist Bubble.. They are surrounded by people just like them and they are very much out of touch with the majority of their own society. They should realize this is true when Trump was elected .. But they still live in denial of the shift that has happened around them.. The more they sequel about trump the lower and lower their viewership becomes.. The more wonky their award decisions become the less people will take notice of their award..

Netflix went down that night. I suspect it went down because so many people were avoiding regular TV that it overloaded.

I did make the mistake of tuning into the Oscars during the speech from the Best Supporting Actress by Viola Davis.

Thank you to the Academy. You know, there's one place that all the people with the greatest potential are gathered. One place and that's the graveyard. People ask me all the time, what kind of stories do you want to tell, Viola? And I say, exhume those bodies. Exhume those stories. The stories of the people who dreamed big and never saw those dreams to fruition. People who fell in love and lost. I became an artistand thank God I did—because we are the only profession that celebrates what it means to live a life.

They're not done patting their backs for that one.

And now I remember why I don't watch the Oscars anymore.

I about fell over laughing when they got so inwardly focused that they couldn't even manage a simple task like handing the right cards out.

We used to watch it every year when I was a kid. It was a big night because there were lots of good movies back then and everyone had a favorite movie or actor/actress.... Then they started adding all these categories and it started getting too long to watch so we'd wait til the end to tune in...

Now it seems like 99% of the movies that come out are just lame and the ones that win aren't any better. That's the main reason why I don't watch anymore, but now that it's become a soapbox for leftist hate speech, I wouldn't watch it even if I had a favorite movie (actually I did - Hacksaw Ridge... but I didn't watch anyway)

How to win an Oscar

-- Lose or gain a lot of weight for a movie.
-- See how down-and-out you can look.
-- Promote the anarchy-agenda of Hollywood as big as you can.
-- Act humble while telling how great you are.
-- Never take a role in a sci-fi or fantasy.

-- Don't get an Oscar for very good movies over a long period of time, and then you can get one for any ole movie simply because you're older now and should have received one years ago.

I think most people now realize that the Academy votes not for the best performance or film, but for whoever is politically correct choice. This has been going on since its inception, I would hazard to say- but the public once thought the awards went to the person with the best performance. There is a lot of lobbying in Hollywood for awards, and I am sure very few people would vote for Hacksaw Ridge simply because it was directed by Mel Gibson, and portrays a Christian.

The general population has caught on that the awards are not for merit, so it's no longer enjoyable to watch. I would assume many people vote for the person or film that it is popular for them to vote for. It's been going on for years.

I don't understand why action, sci-fi and comedies can never get nominated or win best picture. In my opinion the best movie should win, not the most socially acceptable. It's like those blockbusters will never get taken seriously.

Three factors.

1. Yeah, Hollywood's out of touch with American sentiments.

2. Hollywood's films used to all be considered more artful. You had less of a bifurcation between quality drama and action let's say.

3. Fewer movies were made.

4. People have more alternative media choices that would preclude them from going to the movies either because of cost or convenience.

The general movie-goer was then more likely to see an Oscar-winning film or more than one Oscar-winning film.

Moonlight? I've never heard of Moonlight.

And no wonder. Doesn't look at all appealing. A drug dealer who took the whole movie to figure out he was a gay drug dealer? Please, Hollywood.

Sometimes I'll watch an Oscar-winning film like Birdman or The Artist and think "Well, I could be missing something." And get pleasantly surprised by what I see. Not happening this year.

I remember Spotlight won last year, and many people including regular movie goers never heard of the movie. I watched it later and it was fine but I saw better movies that yera
