Should we watch the movie The passion of the Christ? I've already watched it but wanting others opinions on should we watch it? Like it adds things in that are not in the scriptures etc

There isn't a movie out there on the passion that doesn't have things added in that are not in the Bible. Thats Hollywood. If thats a persons Bible thats a problem. If you know the Bible there is no reason not to watch it.

I bought a copy when I was a new Christian. I found it difficult to watch as it was so graphic. Also in hindsight it is a little confusing for a new Christian.

I think if you watch it as an overview, then it's fine. Like, focusing on the crucifixion and it's brutality as a reminder of what Christ went through. But to watch it as a way to learn more about the story as a whole, then no. Gibson was quite open about his going to various religious sources as research to make the movie.

If you're concerned about indoctrination, then take it with a grain of salt when you watch it. It's a pretty well done flick overall and doesn't have to be your Bible.

Jesus Christ Superstar is better.

JC Superstar WAS a good musical... it wasn't "scriptural", but it wasn't intended to be.
The movie "Noah" wasn't, either... but I enjoyed it, for the most part. I actually learned something that I did not know by watching that movie. I didn't know that the oldest man ever, Methuselah, died the same year as the start of the flood. Did he die in the flood? Possibly... but we won't ever know, I suppose.

The Passion is a very good, but difficult to watch movie. Is it 100% scriptural? Probably not. Should it matter? No.

The question I have is.... do you only watch movies that are 100% scriptural?

I understand, and agree to an extent.... if a movie portrayed Jesus as a homosexual, or something fundamentally other than what He was, I wouldn't watch it.

If it's simply a matter of details, like wiping his face on a cloth, which turns out to be the shroud of turin, I don't worry about it.

Sometimes it helps to see "the world's" perception of Jesus.... it can help us search more diligently to come into a closer walk with Him.
