The late 70's movie-series (3 parts I think): Jesus of Nazareth (IMDB link: Jesus of Nazareth (TV mini-series 1977) - IMDb) was A LOT BETTER.
Directed by famous Zeffirelli, it is still considered the best movie on Jesus Christ. Robert Powell was simply brilliant in his role as Jesus. The rest of the cast was all-star.
The Passion was too narrow in scope, and too focused on torture, pain and suffering. Not a bad movie, but definitely very limited.
