I know this may be controversial but i still want to hear everyones opinions

so basically i was wondering what everone thought about peircings and wether they are biblical or not? do you think it is a good or bad thing? do you think it is a sin?

I personally do not wear earings or peircings of any sort. I do not think they are biblical and i see no way how they are good or of god.

I am not wanting to argue - i just want a good discussion - if anyone else is willing

Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty that depends on fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should be known for the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. That is the way the holy women of old made themselves beautiful. . ." 1Peter 3-5

Genesis 35:2: "Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments: 3 And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went. 4 And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem."

Isaiah 3:16-24 (NIV):
16 The LORD says, "The women of Zion are haughty, walking along with out stretched necks, flirting with their eyes, tripping along with mincing steps, with ornaments jingling on their ankles.
17 Therefore the Lord will bring sores on the heads of the women of Zion; the Lord will make their scalps bald."
18 In that day the Lord will snatch away their finery: the bangles and headbands and crescent necklaces,
19 The earrings, the bracelets and veils,
20 The head dresses and ankle chains and sashes, the perfume bottles and charms,
21 The signet rings and nose rings,

just wondering what all your opinions are :)

Great topic Kathleen as always!!! I have three holes in each ear, yet, i really only wear earings if ever in one of those holes. Sometimes i wish i had never gotten them pierced, but when i was about 6 my mom took me and my sister to get them done. I didnt have the presense of mind at 6 to know anything it said in the bible about it or to rationalize that whole thing out. My daughter is about 4 years old, and i thought many times about taking her to get her ears pierced, but then i REALLY thought about it, and i want her to have a choice in it weather she does it or not, if she feels its wrong to get it done then i want her to be able to express that. I didnt have a choice in the matter, my mother was so concerned about apperance i was getting my ears pierced and hair dyed and permed at 6 years old, but i do wish i never would have gotten it done. I dont want to look like this world. I want to look like my fathers

I think there are instances in the scriptures (the Old Testament particularly) where people wore jewelery to an extend that godly persons nowdays may find inappropriate. It was culturally acceptable at the time, for example it is mentioned (I'm reasonably certain) somewhere of women wearing nose rings and men wearing earrings. I can't remember the verses off the top of my head, but if you look at Exodus 35:22 it's quite clear that the Israelistes had (at the very least) in their possession earrings and nose rings. Oh yes! Look at Exodus 32:2. I'm so glad that I can use Biblegateway.com lol!

Personally, I don't think (godly) men should have peircings or that women should an excess of peircings. In terms of piercings being a sin, I think that it would be a very difficult thing to present a 100% Biblically based argument for that. I guess it's similar to drinking alcohol. There's no way you could argue exclusively using the Scriptures that the consumption of alcohol is a sin - drunkedness is a different matter! However, I genuinely believe that before God I should not have piercings or indeed drink.

Nothing intrinsically wrong with piercings, and I don't know why anyone would think there is.

Leilaii435, with repsect, I have said nothing of a sort!! I have pointed out that in the Bible there were people who had piercings to an even greater extant than people do now! What I have also said, if you care to read what I have actually written, is that it would be very difficult to present a case, exclusively using the Bible to assert that piercings are a sin! Additionally, I have also stated that before God I don't believe that I should have piercings! As it's not only women who get piercings!

I personally love piercings. I have my lip, my eyebrow, and both transverse lobes done. I find nothing sinful about them in any way. I simply describe it as decorating the temple of God. Got a problem with it tell it to the piercings, lol. I just find them a way to express myself.

They both said it doesnt matter as long as it is legible. So if your writing sucks they say to type it.
