I'm going to Portland this week, never been! Very excited! Taking a mother-daughter trip with my mom. Flying out Tuesday and coming back Sunday. Strictly a trip for fun, no business allowed! No one I know has actually been to Portland, so I don't know anyone I can ask about it!

I guess the number one thing I want to know is if anyone has any good restaurant recommendations? I have a AAA travel book and I'm going through and circling everything that looks good, but it just feels a bit two-dimensional without having actually checked with anyone who's been there.

So has anyone been there? Any suggestions? Any must-do touristy things?

Thanks for any advice or recommendations you guys have!

Restaurants? Oh, darn... No, I've only been once or twice. There's an excellent book store there if you're into that sort of thing and have time; Powell's Books. I hope you have a good time!

Well, I'm 5 hours SW of Portland, so you can't come see me. (Well, you COULD...)

I don't get up to Portland much, but some must dos are: VooDoo Doughnut, APizza Scholls, and check out the street cart foods. FANTASTIC. I also eat out at quite a few Thai places, but nothing that stands out in my mind.

Well, I live about two hours away from Portland and just know of things to do in Oregon if you are going to rent a car. The Oregon Coast is beautiful so that may open options for a day trip or even a trip to Mt. Hood National Forest. I could give you more details, but since this is a forum I won't here on the thread just send me a PM and I will go into more detail. And by the way we do not have sales tax so that should help out with costs of things. If I don't hear from you I pray you have safe travels and enjoy your stay in Oregon.

I've been in Portland several times to visit my sister, but I'm not much of a touristy sort of person. I go there and turn on the TV. I like to eat at Elmer's Restaurant at 9660 SE Stark St, but it's not fancy. I just like the food. If you take Interstate 84 East out of town, there's some touristy stop just off the freeway in connection with the Columbia River, if I remember correctly.

Excellent, thank youuu! And I'm not necessarily looking for "fancy," so this recommendation was perfect, thank you! Nice avatar, by the way lol!

I bet you were referring to my Arizona Cardinals avatar. I switched my Avatar three times this afternoon before settling on the St. Louis Cardinal avatar, but I love the Arizona Cardinals, too. I always have, going back to the 1960's when they were in St. Louis.

Oh! If you find the time, visit Lake Oswego. It's about 20 mins from Portland. Quite an artsy little town, and there are some decent places to eat there (all I can remember is a creamery and a diner called Biscuits). The town is nice to take a walk through, too; there's a small trail that hugs the lake there.

Okay, folks! Off on my trip! Ma lost her credit card yesterday, and is really stressed because that's how she was going to pay for our rental car... I'm sure it will all work out! Throw up a couple of those "mini prayers" for us, thanks! Byyyeeee!

Yes, at least drive out to Astoria for the day. The Oregon coast is one of the most beautiful places on earth. The state parks are unbelievable.

My second son played hockey there for over a year, but I don't know where he ate out. I lived in Eugene for a few years growing up. I consider them the best years of my youth. I have always loved Oregon! And Portland is a fabulous city.

Have a great, safe time!
