Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

After the first couple hundred times it gets easier. LOL

Preacher once said you should be paid up prayed up and ready to go at any time. Never know when God will call on you to do something for His glory.

In the Bible, the deciples asked Jesus how to pray and he game them the Our Father prayer as example. I'm thinking it can be my example too.

1) Address God by one of his titles: Our Father, who art in heaven,

2) Praise him: hallowed be thy Name,

3) Ask for what you want: Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

4) End the prayer:
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever Amen.

I feel that if I have a formula/strategy of how to pray, then when I'm called upon to pray, instead of being alarmed, I can just pray according to how I've mapped it out above.

The other strategy is to keep it short. I don't know that I'm cut out to be a "prayer warrior" so I might as well keep it simple, short and sincere.

(Simple, Short and Sincere. I think i need to copywrite that :) )

Hi Calibob, while I believe the Bible agrees with you, at least in the sense of verses like these .. Romans 2:4; 1 Corinthians 13:1, we always need to use words for evangelism/witnessing, because so many still sit in darkness, because they simply must hear .. e.g. Romans 10:13-15, 17. I believe that kindness, love AND the Gospel are all necessary (and commanded by God .. Matthew 5:16, 7:12, 1 Peter 3:15).

Hi Kim, you are correct, the Lord's prayer is a great one to study and use as a pattern for prayer. I use another popular pattern of prayer as well. It's easily remembered by this little acrostic: "ACTS" (it can help you stay on track when you are praying).

.........A - Adoration
.........C - Confession
.........T - Thanksgiving
.........S - Supplication

Memorizing Scripture (verses and passages, not the whole Bible :)) will always give you something to "focus" on/pray around when praying. It will take a lot of time/work on your part (memorization work always does), but it's definitely worth it as the benefits/blessings FAR outweigh any time and effort that you have to put into it. When you know God's word so well that it is literally on the tip of your tongue, it is very helpful when praying (particularly in public) and, quite frankly, with living all parts of the Christian life as well.

I still use the Navigators Topical Memory System to memorize Scripture (now available on Apple and Android apps too).

Something happened to me when I was an infant I was abandoned in the hospital at birth. I never met her, I was taken away immediately. Years later At 34? A brother came to me, identified himself, and told me he had come to bring me home. All the way there I rolled around in my mind what I would say to my mother for the first time. Why did you leave me? My heart had been asking that for decades.

The Lords' prayer just kept coming to mind, Forgive our tresspasses as we forgive those who...It dawned on me. Forgive and when I did that terrible poison from the resentment and heart brake I felt for so many years, were gone!
