When we are focused on the Lord we will by the new direction we have chosen have no place for any of the former things.

saying we must "give up" something to be His lapses back to the wrong idea we need to do things to make ourselves right to Him. jesus paid it all on the cross, religion makes people jump through hoops to sup[posedly make themselves right, that is the wrong thinking, you were raised in religion and it shows, we most all were, hence the lack of progress of the kingdom for the last 2,000 years. Jesus ,odeled how to live in relationship with the Father, He only did what He saw the Father do, He only said what He heard the Father say.
You seem to be "stuck" in the error of religious practice when the indwelling Christ would like to get out and manifest His presence through the believer.
Relationship- NOT religion.
best wishes

sorry you are mistaken I wasnt raised in any religion at all.
God showed me what repentence truly meant so dont know what YOU think it is.

If God asks you to give up your pride, would you do it or say no God Im gonna hold on to my pride Jesus paid for it..so dont need to give it up. I dont think so.

if you not experienced spiritual warfare regarding things of the occult you cant say God will take it away from people who are still practicing it. Its like saying an alcoholic can still drink alcohol with and not get drunk. Nope it doesnt work that way

the desire to practice evil will be changed and then actions will follow, if actions dont follow can it be said that the desire has changed. well not really. show your faith by your works. Faith without works is dead.

when Jesus tells someone caught in adultery to Go and SIN NO MORE he means what he says, he doest go ah you can go off and still sin even though now you know its wrong. That would just be stupid.

People are stupid though and may keep on sinning until they realise its better if they stop.

satan is the original liar, that's for sure, he and his minions only come to steal kill and destroy.
I don't fully grasp the witches need to "give up" anything , if they focus on Christ, pray without ceasing, all the garbage will drop off, seems to me.
Not so. When the gospel came to Ephesus, (Acts 19:19), a number of converts burned their books. The books were worth about 50,000 drachmas. A drachma was about a day's wage in those days. One reason for burning such books is that it severs the connection to the occult. There is no temptation just to sneak a peek. It is equivalent to an alcoholic pouring the last bottle of wine down the sink to avoid temptation. It shows both God and the devil that you mean business.

Demons don't just drop off. They have to be cast out. Lord Jesus showed that throughout His ministry. I had involvement in the occult but on a different level. It was not witchcraft as such. I had an occult demon cast out a few years after I was saved. They can hide, so to speak. Satan and his evil host cannot function apart from a person to manipulate and control. God will not work apart from the cooperation of man. Satan and God are after the same thing, the cooperation of man's will. Satan does it by subterfuge, bribery, deception and lies. God does it openly and honestly, not coercing but out of His great love.

exactly and so that is why witches need to give up their witchcraft. They cant hang on to it.
Its like drunks need to give up drinking, and replace with something non alcoholic if they take one sip of alcohol they tend to fall off the bandwagon again. They dont go back to their old way of life. They cant be dry drunks either they need to be 'drunk with spirit'

I was thinking how my boss didnt give up buying tarot cards cos he thought it was a good earner for him. He hasnt totally given up his profit motive - love of money.

when people repent, they actually do give up something SO they can do something else. Not just give up something for the sake of it, ok heres an extreme example but do you get my meaning. Someone kills ssomeone, knows its wrong, and repents. How do they repent do they just stop killing more people? WEll yes but not JUST that they need to show they want to give life to people instead of killing them so maybe they become a life saver like a nurse or paramedic something. Maybe they do something charitable for the victims.

anyone can say they have just stopped sinning when they dont do it anymore...but where is the fruit of their good works. someone has repented of their stealing, Do they just not steal anymore or do they pay back what they stole seven fold? Do they then stop others from stealing. That kind of thing.
Some aspects of the old life cease immediately. I knew a Karate black belt who got born again for real. I helped lead him, but he was as ready as anyone I've ever met. He quit Karate the next day. Other people have problems getting free of something that God wants out of their lives. There is no instant perfection. I led a gambler to the Lord. It took him a long time to get free, especially as he had a huge win just after he was saved. That was Satan's set up to keep him bound.

"the desire to practice evil will be changed and then actions will follow,"
"Some aspects of the old life cease immediately.
I have heard it taught and seen the evidence He takes the worst problem first such as an alcoholic been turned sober in minutes at conversion , then after, the closer we draw near to Him, the more these things drop off, John Wimber spoke of this in His experience.
Jesus changed it all, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength, and love your neighbor as yourself. With these two commandments lie all of the law".
Even here at cc many still hold to an outward form of godliness denying the power thereof.
He doesn't take anything if you won't let go of it.
