Random story:
I was doing my touch-and go's as usual. The weather was fine, winds were calm. When I was flairing the plane for a good touch, my instructor suddenly took the controls. "That will do". I thought "yikes, what have I done wrong this time?". He landed the plane, and vacated the runway.
"Time for you to continue alone". It took some seconds to understand what he said. "Do you feel confident enough to go on your own?"
"Yessir!!!". "Oh my, this is it! I'm going all alone!"
He got out of the plane, took his mobile radio, and anounced: "Oscar Oscar Victor Charlie Mike will continue t&g solo!"
I quickly ran trough my basic preflight checks. All seems ok. So I better go then.
"Grimbergen radio, OOVCM, taxi to runway 01"
"OOVCM, Grimbergen, roger, Good luck Aksel!"
While taxiing the plane, I got my first chance to think about it. Hey, I'm going all alone! Yay! I have to admit that my stress level was rising.
There is the runway! Final checks - ok. Here I go
"Grimbergen Radio, OOVCM, ready for departure runway 01"
"OOVCM, Grimbergen radio, take off at own descretion, winds are calm"
"Take off at own descretion, OOVCM"
I aligned the plane with the centreline. I remember thinking "Boy, when you hit the gas, you d'better land it safely"
So I did apply full power. The revs increased. 2500 RPM, OK, engine instruments in the green. Brakes released.
Suddenly, the plane began to roll. In the grass, the feeling of speed is spectacular because of the many bumps.
There was a very slight cross-wind, so I only had to correct slightly with the rudder, applying some left foot.
At 45 kts, sonner then I expected, the plane began to hoover above the runway. "Of course, all alone I'm much lighter, I nearly forgot!"
I continued to hoover untill the airspeed became 65kts, then I pulled the steer to climb. I was flying the airplane ALL ALONE!
Yaay
That was the most exciting take-off I've ever done.
