Without a doubt there should be a dress code. It is the place we go to worship our God. Have some respect. As for the post of what to wear. He is our God we should wear the best of what we have, he deserves nothing less.
Just my opinion
I still love all of yall
Best of what I have? Make a mental note never to buy a suit i hatre those things anyways.

Just thinking. What about jungle dwellers who get converted and only wear loin cloths and the women go naked on top and young children are totally naked?

Now that our media is promoting dress to attract sexually, many of our young people are following the style, often with complete innocence about the intentions of these styles. Their dress often show as much of their breasts as possible without them flopping loose, with skirts split or short enough to only hide their panties. This sort of dress has even been seen on the stage in our church.

Some of us were discussing what we could do about this. My opinion is that the church should set some rules, but I have been delving into books telling of the effect in our world of our being taught about tolerance. Most of what I find is that the very demons are joyful over our stand about God’s law being only in our hearts, without making any stand setting actual boundaries.

The books I am reading promote the idea of saying this is sin, and here we stand, for the demons use every tactic to push for sin and evil. Our fuzzy boundaries of sin is used to their advantage. But some think the church must not take a stand.

Do you think the church can take a stand, and if so, what stand?

1 Corinthians 14:40 (HCSB)
[SUP]40 [/SUP] But everything must be done decently and in order.

If a person is dressed in such a way or acts in such a way as to distract others from worshipping the Lord our GOD, then it DOES NOT fall in line with what is decent and in order. And they are sinning and causing others to sin by doing so.

Romans 14:21-22 (HCSB)

[SUP]21 [/SUP] It is a noble thing not to eat meat, or drink wine, or do anything that makes your brother stumble.
[SUP]22 [/SUP] Do you have a conviction? Keep it to yourself before God. The man who does not condemn himself by what he approves is blessed.

Matthew 18:6-7 (NASB)
[SUP]6 [/SUP] but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.
[SUP]7 [/SUP] "Woe to the world because of its stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes!

Romans 12:2 (NIV)
[SUP]2 [/SUP] Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

1 Timothy 2:9-10 (HCSB)
[SUP]9 [/SUP] Also, the women are to dress themselves in modest clothing, with decency and good sense, not with elaborate hairstyles, gold, pearls, or expensive apparel,
[SUP]10 [/SUP] but with good works, as is proper for women who affirm that they worship God.

James 4:4 (ESV)
[SUP]4 [/SUP] You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

Yes it certainly sounds like your Church has crossed over the line into worldliness.

A few things:

Mutual respect is implied by a local church service: respect by the regulars towards visitors, and respect by the visitors towards the regulars. And above all remembering the wished for presence of the Lord.

Some places don't feel the need to spell out in words what a dress code should be. The respect issue is still valid, though.

Problems can happen if visitors come in an attitude of defiance.

Problems can happen if regulars project merely subjective preferences onto unsuspecting visitors as cast-iron rules.

The emphasis should really be about respect as an attitude of heart, rather than a person laying down the law.
