That is an odd name for food products, considering the fact that using the term "sanitarium" is a polite way of saying looney bin :D
I think it is from Health Sanitarium
which in the old days (when I was young) was a 'boot camp' for
unhealthy people to get detoxified and recuperate.

Sanitarium n. 1829, literally "place dedicated to health,"
from neuter of Modern Latin *sanitarius, from Latin sanitas "health"
from sanus healthy; sane. Cf. sanatarium.

1. the US spelling sanatorium
Sanatorium (U.S.)
1. a hospital for the treatment of chronic diseases,
as tuberculosis or various nervous or mental disorders.

2. sanitarium. (British)

after hub's and my 'conversion', we were just personally 'convicted' to NOT eat PORK, from
the scriptures that we had read about how the pagans desecrated God's Holy /Temple/Altar by
offering their pagan sacrifices upon it, which happened to be 'pork', hog, swine'...

it's just a personal thing... although we have noticed over the years, that many take
offence of this, and 'some' have even tried to 'trick us' into eating pork, which they all ready
knew that we didn't eat, into some of the dishes that they served/gave to us...this broke our hearts...
but, we never held this against them...
Hi oldethennew,

I too am a Christian that does not eat pork because of God's instructions otherwise. If someone slipped me some by mistake or even on purpose, I would not feel defiled. I think God's dietary instructions are for our health benefits.

Yours,

Deade
