It makes perfect sense. And, absolutely - it will be helpful to her to utilize this ability not only if she ever has to use her weapon, but also before she has to use it - so that, hopefully, she will not have to use it...
And, being an athlete -- learning martial arts style defense techniques should also be a very good option for her.
( Of course, it is good for anyone to learn; however, anyone who is already used to that kind of self-discipline should be able to make "an easy-entrance" into it. )
I highly recommend it.

My most recent purchase for myself was a Springfield XDM .45 compact for carry.
My wife is 4'11 and had trouble finding a gun that fit her hands. She had the notion that a .38 is all she could use so she has a .38 revolver colt agent.
When she picked up the Springfield XDS 9mm sub-compact, she instantly said "this is the one". I was pretty stoked bc that was my next purchase anyway. Lol

revolvers are dependable, especially for the beginner, it takes a more deliberate action
to fire as the cylinder needs to be rotated and trigger released. A semi auto may not function
in a crisis situation if not held firmly.

I used to carry the Ruger LCP 380. I like the Ruger LC9 with a laser. I really like the Bond Arms Bullpup (formerly the Boberg), but it is out of my price range. I like the semi-autos because they can hold more bullets, and I am not very worried about todays pistols not working.
My reason for asking is because I have not been following the concealable arms market in recent years and wondered what else was out there. I am open to using a 45 but the 9mm is probably more cost effective and generally comes in smaller packages.

The 9mm is probably the most popular choice for concealed carry.
The ammo is MUCH more affordable than .45 ACP, usually about $5 a box cheaper.
That being said, I own a Taurus 24/7 Pro in .45 that holds 12 rounds. I haven't carried it yet, but wouldn't hesitate to do so. It's simply a little large for hot weather concealed carry...
My primary carry gun is a Taurus PT111 G2 in 9mm. It holds 12 rounds and has a 3.2" barrel. It is very easy to shoot, and is way more accurate than necessary for self defense. It also has a really good trigger, with a very short "reset" . Top it off with "double strike" capability, in the case of a dud strike on the primer... and it has a safety. Some people like a safety on a striker fired gun, some don't. I like the option. I can carry it with one in the chamber, on safety... pretty much like the "cocked and locked" option on a 1911...
It's been absolutely dependable, with probably about 1200 rounds through it... no failures to feed, fire, or eject... at least not yet.. It's what I used to shoot a perfect score in my LTC training/shooting class.
I paid $239 for mine... now they are more like $279, I think.... GREAT concealed carry handgun.

9mm is sufficient, a friend tells me he was home on a Sunday, a guy with a knife broke in and came at him, he had time to
reach a 9mm , hit the perpetrator in the knee, the thread ended. He's a good shot, was aiming for center mass, hit the knee,
weird stuff happens in the excitement of the moment. I have more confidence in the revolver.
