The Law of God brings the knowledge of sin.
Many people say they are not under the law as an excuse.
Men may excuse your sin, but God doesn't. God hasn't changed. His law is still good. When he said you should not kill, he meant it. When he said to not covet, he meant that.
Now, the law in and of itself was weak to convert your conscience. That is where it was weak.
Sure, God can keep his commands, because God is full of love. But all men have fallen short.
Those who do not see their need for a savior, are haters of God. And haters of God killed Jesus Christ. They rested in the law, but none of them kept the law. They needed a savior, but they nailed him to a tree. Some today rest in scriptures, but don't obey them.
You and I also killed him. Your sin and my sin killed him for being good. We hated Jesus. We didn't have love in us. When we were shown our wickedness, in the light of his goodness, we saw our sin crucified on the cross. We saw that he died because of sins he did not commit. He was guiltless.
Jesus said, ''If you had known what this meant, ''I will have mercy, not sacrifice,'' you would have not condemned the guiltless.
Merciless people are full of condemnation. They are set to destroy people's lives, not to save them. And they even condemn the guiltless.
The judges of the world have become destroyers of people's lives. Merciless judges who will all answer to a righteous Judge. Every many will be tested against the words of Christ. Every deed brought to remembrance that has not been washed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
Men cannot conceal their error always. All things are known to God. There is nothing done in darkness that shall not be made manifest in the light.
So the light of the gospel exposes our shame, and makes us call on a savior, Jesus Christ, for mercy.
It was his goodness that lead us to repentance, seeing as we were not good. We had fallen short.
As it was written, where sin did abound, grace did much more abound.
But because grace much more abound, that does not mean we can continue in sin. In sin there is no grace. But grace sets you free from sin.
Why would a swine who was cleaned go back into the mud? If that swine did not receive a new nature, the nature of a swine is still in it. And it is by nature an unclean beast.
We need a new nature, and a new mind. We need the nature of God, and the Mind of Christ Jesus our Lord.
