I was not sure where to post this...but I think here is better than nowhere at all.
Chat was pretty frustrating this morning. It got to the point where people started to leave.
Now, I can hear some of you now maybe saying....*its just chat...maybe they should not be so sensitive* etc etc....but for some, this is REAL fellowship to them. If you were in a room full of people in real life and standing there wanting to be acknowledged, and you were continually ignored.....that would not feel great either.
With that said, here is my take on the lounge. Before we had these nifty forums etc....all we had was the chat...and for you newbies...there used to not be voice chat either. BUT..when voice chat first started, there were a TON of complaints about the sillyness in the lounge ...and how noone could have a serious conversation. So, RoboOp made the YoungAdults room.......ir rarely got used...lol (imagine that)
This site has changed a lot over time...and has lots of options to accomodate everyone. Because people requested those options...BUT, when they are asked to use those options...they act like their rights are being offended. *rolls eyes*
The lounge can be used for lots of different things...some play music, some ask for prayer, some have deep theological discussions...and most of the time is is just random small talk. The mic is popular....is is so much easier to talk on the mic than type the majority of the time. Some have come up with all sorts of (IMO) silly *solutions* about time limits etc....but that is totally missing the point. You should just really be treating others like you want to be treated. Be respectful...not make jokes or poke fun at the expense of anyone else.
If ANY chatter askes you politely to take the discussion or music or praying, or theology or whatever into its designated room....they really are doing it for your benefit as much as they are their own. A Moderator does not have to be the one to do it....and it should not take a mod and the threat of an infraction or ban to get people to sit up and start acting like aduts and be respectful.
Anyway, sorry if I was rambling.....but hopefully this will help people see a bit of the history of this site and the complaints are always the same....and the complaints stem from people feeling like they are not being listened to. Just try to be respectful of those around you and treat them as you want to be treated...no matter what room you are utilizing on chat.
(one last thing....there are some that will probably never get this...that was part of the frustration this morning....they do not see themselves as a soarce of the problem.....and for them, there is probably nothing else to do but to talk to a mod about them...that might help them see their behavior.)
ok, I am done Take care everyone.
