I was not sure where to post this...but I think here is better than nowhere at all.

Chat was pretty frustrating this morning. It got to the point where people started to leave.
Now, I can hear some of you now maybe saying....*its just chat...maybe they should not be so sensitive* etc etc....but for some, this is REAL fellowship to them. If you were in a room full of people in real life and standing there wanting to be acknowledged, and you were continually ignored.....that would not feel great either.

With that said, here is my take on the lounge. Before we had these nifty forums etc....all we had was the chat...and for you newbies...there used to not be voice chat either. BUT..when voice chat first started, there were a TON of complaints about the sillyness in the lounge ...and how noone could have a serious conversation. So, RoboOp made the YoungAdults room.......ir rarely got used...lol (imagine that)

This site has changed a lot over time...and has lots of options to accomodate everyone. Because people requested those options...BUT, when they are asked to use those options...they act like their rights are being offended. *rolls eyes*

The lounge can be used for lots of different things...some play music, some ask for prayer, some have deep theological discussions...and most of the time is is just random small talk. The mic is popular....is is so much easier to talk on the mic than type the majority of the time. Some have come up with all sorts of (IMO) silly *solutions* about time limits etc....but that is totally missing the point. You should just really be treating others like you want to be treated. Be respectful...not make jokes or poke fun at the expense of anyone else.

If ANY chatter askes you politely to take the discussion or music or praying, or theology or whatever into its designated room....they really are doing it for your benefit as much as they are their own. A Moderator does not have to be the one to do it....and it should not take a mod and the threat of an infraction or ban to get people to sit up and start acting like aduts and be respectful.

Anyway, sorry if I was rambling.....but hopefully this will help people see a bit of the history of this site and the complaints are always the same....and the complaints stem from people feeling like they are not being listened to. Just try to be respectful of those around you and treat them as you want to be treated...no matter what room you are utilizing on chat.

(one last thing....there are some that will probably never get this...that was part of the frustration this morning....they do not see themselves as a soarce of the problem.....and for them, there is probably nothing else to do but to talk to a mod about them...that might help them see their behavior.)

ok, I am done :) :) Take care everyone.

This is one of the great mysteries of chat I've never understood. If a handful of people in the lounge are having a discussion about some topic and are asked to move it to say bible study room, they view it as a huge crime against humanity and think their only option is just to quit talking all together, instead of just going to a room where they can talk!

Do they not want to move because then only 5 or so folks will hear them rambling instead of 20-30? Seriously I don't get it!!

People seem to interpret, "Take the convo to another room' as 'you can't talk about this topic ever so please be quiet'.

Yeah after much thought and reflection, that's the ONLY reason I can think of why folks won't move.

I agree with you Grace. I try to gently suggest that those who want to play music or sing go to the YouSing Room, those who have a heavy Bible topic they want to discuss to go to the BibleStudy Room, teens who want to hang on the mic and be teens go to the Teen Room, etc. Not being a mod, however, few people listen to my suggestions. I do hope I have not offended anyone by making those suggestions. I enjoy CC and want to keep it friendly for all of us.

The “Chat Equation” is simple;
{S(attendance)(excitement)} = {S(response)(reputation)}
* Excitement and response are related to the subject; if both values are 0 the result is "boring."
* The anomaly occurs when reputation is high while attendance is zero (Ex: Chatting with yourself in an empty room, ha haaaaa)
* The value of “S” depends on the reaction given, since “S” stands for “the element of surprise” LOL.
