I was playing softball up until mid to late 40's... I did notice that it took longer to "recover" after strenuous exercise, but it wasn't bad.
Now that I'm in my early 60's, I can testify that your body DOES slow down... joints get more painful, etc.
I really think that it is mainly due to a sedentary lifestyle. I get off work, get home, decide I'm too tired to "do" anything, so I sit and relax. After enough months of that, it's difficult to do anything at all.
Like Willie said, just move, every chance you get.... doesn't have to be strenuous stuff, just flexibility stuff.
Over all, life is good. I'm blessed beyond what I deserve.
