Connotation:
Rhyme Scheme- A,B,C,B.
Hyperbole- I know ten thousand women with the name Mary.
Repetition- She repeats we are more alike then we are unalike. The words such as differ, different, difference.
Imagery- The many colors of peoples skin. Makes you picture a rainbow of people.
Shifts: In stanzas six and seven there is a noticeable shift. The author goes from describing how different people are, to how different the countries are. She becomes more general and less specific in the seventh stanza and so on. Starts in first person, then third towards the ending.
Theme: This poem is telling the reader that not everybody is alike. Not everybody shares the same thoughts, dreams, skin color, or accent. This tells me that it is trying to say not to look at and see everything the same way. But to open your eyes and see that though these people are your brothers and sisters in Christ, they are different than you.
