Is it just me, or are these people giving all of us a bad name?

All the teenagers at my school who are not christian seem to think that this is what all christians are like, and thats not fair. That church is more like a hate group than a church. In my opinion, a person should be allowed to believe whatever they like, but that doesn't give them the right to picket at a dead soldiers funeral, or call a gay person horrible and offensive names. That isn't what a real christian would do. God loves everybody, whether gay or straight, black or white, or of any religion or background.

Sorry, just my rant of the day.

I agree, but I think we could also learn from West Boro... The thing I admire about westboro is that they stick to their guns and their belief's... Where as us 'real Christians' become worldly as to not offend anyone...

Everyone used to think that black's were hateful, wild, and dangerous... Then comes a few people, like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King.... Some people still don't understand that it is just the color of the skin that is difference between people... Church is a lot harder thing to understand, I don't blame people for thinking we are all like Westboro... I blame myself for not showing them through my actions that we are not like them...

We have to be the modern Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King... Learn from those people, and understand why Martin Luther King lead a million people and not Malcolm X...

trying not to offend anyone is not the way we should be, but outright hatred is also wrong. as Paul said: above all put on love . Colossians 3. those people do not know anything about that.

What does it say when those belonging to the deceiver appear more committed than those who belong to Christ? Personally, I believe there are far more committed Christians out in the world doing great work for the Kingdom, but the "media" cares not for reporting the "good" that Christians do. It's far more in keeping with their beliefs to report on the antics of such as Westboro...

They are an extremist group that picket at the funerals of American soldiers etc. and blame the death of these soldiers on the government's tolerance of sodomy. I don't know if they still do, but they did have a few websites (usually Godhates... (insert anything from "fags" to "america") .com). They essentially take an extremist view of lots of parts of scripture, and present it to the world in an obnoxious way, although I don't think they have committed any violence. The church seems to be composed of a father (the pastor), and his daughters.

My own belief is that this is a CIA or related front organisation to make Christians look bad. They call themselves "Baptist", but are not affiliated with any group of churches under that banner.

What I know of them is that they are actually a supposed church/congregation made up of "extended" family members.....to me, and this is my opinion only, they most resemble a "cult" operating under the name of "Baptist" church.....but, that's just me.

Point of interest..........there are a bunch of guys and girls who ride Harleys that travel around the US to attend the funerals of Veterans, and they usually provide some sort of service to the families such as assistance in parking cars of those attending the funerals, escorting the Funeral Procession to the grave site and such, even to giving American Flags to the families.

Some time ago, there was to be a funeral for a young man near my home who had been killed in Iraq, and Westboro announced to one of the local TV Stations that they were going to be at the funeral service to protest. Well, the morning of the funeral some folks claiming to be Westboro did show up, but they ONLY GOT within about a 1/4 of a mile of the actual funeral service. Seems there were SO VERY MANY really ugly looking men on Harleys between them and the Memorial Service taking place, they just couldn't get any closer.........

Yes, they are giving Christians a bad name. I am convinced that God is not happy with Westboro Baptist church. They are full of hate. Jesus NEVER advocated hate or pointing fingers.

Lol no offence but America creates the most bizarre sects of religions and cults in the world, and is renowned for it :p

So I don't think it's giving christianity a bad name but rather it is giving America a bad name , that's how the British and Australians see the americans ( lived in both countries lol )

T_Laurich - thats a good point, even though their actions can be very offensive, they are very strong in their beliefs and stick by them even when others don't like it.

P_rehbein - I don't think the media will ever want to show the good things that people do, as it isnt really considered interesting by the viewers, but I try to not let that stop me from doing good things anyway even if Im not going to get credit for it.

Kreation - I still think that they give christians a bad name, since I am from New Zealand, and heaps of people around here expect that that is what all christians are like.

If a child of God inadvertently allows himself to wear a label that was invented by men then he/she must share that label with all manner of men.

I have to be honest, I have never heard of the westboro baptist church until yesterday coming on to this forum, I've also learned from this forum that there is a nudest church in america lol which I found amusing

My advice is to just let the minority do their stuff and we ( the majority ) carry on showing what christianity is really about :)

That's a scary thought... Never has true Christianity been a majority... :p

Phelps and his clan are full of Constitutional lawyers. They make their money by doing these offensive (but legal) things, and then suing those who retaliate against them.

The very best response to WBC is to ignore them. They don't make any money that way.

I don't get how they are such a big problem? I looked online and it said that it was a family run church so I would have guessed it would be a small church?

LOL!! I find them interesting now. Apparently they were banned from crossing the UK borders for some holiday/campaign thing and the daughter of that clan was saying that we brits can GO TO HELL

lovely lol

which part of america are they from?

They aren't a big problem for God's Church............rather an annoyance..........and a "false" representation of His Church. One thing I know for sure is they will answer to God for all they lead astray........

The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps.
Proverbs 14:15

This one is good to look up in multiple translations as well.
