In my opinion this short movie is almost the best. Jesus Christ Superstar is a close second.

The Young Messiah was based on the book Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt by Ann Rice :)

I have not seen it, and don't think I'd known before that it was based on a book of fiction written by Anne Rice, who I consider to be an author of excellent caliber, having read a number of her books multiple times. There was some controversy surrounding her status as a Christian some time ago, because she denounced the assignation due to the behavior of certain people, which, to be honest, that type of reaction strikes me as being childish, since the same people who refuse to call themselves "Christian" do not also renounce being, or calling them selves, a human being. Any ways, one of the aspects of Anne's writing that I really appreciate is how deeply she delves into the human condition in its relationship to God. She has been known to say that her fictional characters give her a voice to express all her cares and concerns and questions in this regard. This video may convey some of that:

I really enjoyed it. Typically I'm a stickler for historical accuracies and whatnot, but I nearly cried when the grandmother came out and saved her family by loving her enemy (the roman soldiers). Okay, I did cry- but you're not to tell anyone. There were some really good examples of biblical principles in there. Good writing.

This woman... I keep getting drawn to her work- it's unexplainable. I remember her struggle with Christianity... regardless of her falling out of the faith (which is tragic)- God has blessed her with talent, indeed.

She certainly questions a lot of things and masterfully weaves her musings into profound works of fiction. I would be remiss not to say she is probably in my top five list of authors. Her Roman Catholic background may have something to do with her desire to leave the Christian moniker behind, while professing a belief in Christ, and maintaining her belief in God; He alone knows her heart. I cannot say whether she did or did not fall out of the faith, and though many characterize her position as a falling away, it seems more to be a reaction to what she sees as heartlessness within organized religion, and a desire to disassociate from those she staunchly disagrees with.
