I know many people think it is okay to do so , but for me personally when I listen to non christian music i get in a different mood depending on the song, I really love artists like Amy Winehouse and others, their voices and creativity but the content and tone of the music is something moving away from where I am going. I am trying to focus on uplifting and inspirational music now.

What are your thoughts?

Thank You for reading and God Bless.
If listening to secular music "floats your boat" (so to speak), then listen to it and enjoy it!

However, if you feel it is not for you, then don't listen to it...

It is as simple as that, there is no hard and fast right and wrong about a Christian listening to secular music, it is simply up to the individual's taste!

So chill out and enjoy whichever music does it for you!

Yahweh Shalom...

Even though this thread was started awhile ago:

I completely relate.

When I gave my life to Jesus, secular music was not appealing anymore at all.

It's hard to explain but this verse comes to mind:

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. (Philippians 4:8 NLT)

Of course most of the music I used to listen to was really.... eh not admirable.
That's just me personally.

God created the earth and everything in it. Many of the things we do every day, and many of the things we see has a spiritual side to them. I don't think we can take any part of our lives and say this is a Christian part, that isn't, even the music we listen to. With some music and lyrics we can say that this music is against God, that is different. Most music isn't against God principles.

Older Christians r kinda funny. It's ok to listen to Box Car Willy or Hank Williams or any country music as far as that goes, but if you listen to a simple love song by the Beatles, your going to hell. Yea the Beatles did drugs, sex, and other weird things, but check out the life styles of some of them good ole country boys! They're not as 'good ole boys' as you might think.
Allow God to be your check in all things.
Many would put down secular music but have no problem watching Gunsmoke or Kojac. Then others have no problem watching football played by a bunch of God rejecting sinners but draw a line on listening to Hey Jude?!?

Furthermore, I personally cannot listen to modern christian music that wreaks of arrogance and tainted by churchianity.
Im sure some of it is done by true believers, humble and well meaning. But if they are totally surrendered to Christ, how in the world did they ever get an open door with a christian music company that is probably run by ungodly men in the first place? Enquiring mind wants to know.

As you can see this is an interesting subject that could be discussed for a long time!

Despite your admitting it's 'probably' (meaning you have no facts, just presumptions) you continue with your presumptions as if they are truth. Then want answers to your questions created based off of your assumptions.
And, lets say it is true, isn't the fact that that musician is surrendered to Christ be the Reason Christ would open that door?

I'm not a fan of CCM and much mainstream modern Christian music either. So it's not so much a defense of the music or people as it is your approach. It's not valid to take guesses and then expect answers or try to make points with things you yourself are saying you don't know is even true.

Ignore whatever bad lyrics are in the song (if there are any), and if you simply like the Rhythm of the song, it's fine.
