I work at a place where I call and try to get you to do a political survey over the phone.
Damn people are just so rude sometimes when you call them. It's frustrating
Calling people unsolicited is rude.
Ever think about that?
Your whole job is to politely be rude to people.
You rudely call them, they have to stop whatever productive
thing they're doing to deal with you, then you call them rude.
It'd be ironically comical if it weren't so maddening.

I once read that the department of the army has an entire laboratory where people do nothing but try to decide how much caffeine to put in each of the food rations.

That's not what I do... but... if I could start all over....

I could be Colonel Caffeine.

That really has a ring to it... a jittery, nervous, can't-sit-still kind of ring.

I really like Tn, I live on the Ky/Tn line, so I can enjoy the best of both states. I think all the mountains are near Gatlinburg, much of the rest of the state is flat, or hilly, with lots of streams, which I love. Colorado would be nice to visit but I do not think I would enjoy living there all the time. I wish you the best in choosing.

Socreta I think you are the only person on the forum who has a more stereotyped job than my burger-flipping job. And I can see your point - man's gotta do SOMETHING to earn a living.

But as somebody who gets a lot of those calls, I gotta say it's (bleep) annoying. If you actually call me yourself I will at least be civil and politely tell you I'm not interested. If you have a computer call me and recite a prerecorded spiel, that's what really irritates me. Anybody calls me and burns up my time for their purpose that I never asked to hear about, at LEAST have the decency to talk to me. If someone plays a robo-call at me I will either hang up or wait to hear what button to press to talk to a real person so I can ask the person why he interrupted my day just to play a recorded message at me.

So yeah Socreta I can see how your job would be frustrating. But you gotta understand our irritation does come from somewhere. The rudeness you are getting does have a source and cause.

New guy here. My first post.
I am just an old retired guy, 11 years now.
Before retirement I had 40 plus jobs in 40 plus cities.
The wife and I spent 45 years traveling this great country and loved every day of it.
Have you heard the saying, jack of all traded and master of none, that describes us.
That sounds really interesting, I bet you could write a book or at least a blog about your travels, I would enjoy hearing about it...~~ I have always wanted to travel but have not had the opportunity.

Ya gotta understand, they are just trying to do their job. I agree it's annoying to get a call unsolicited. I used to work a job going door to door selling internet...I hated doing it, but it paid the bills and I even had the opportunity to pray with a few people.

I work matiance and landscaping for a mobile home park and I do the housekeeping for the church Im a member of, but thats more charity on the churches part than work on mine. And I do whatever else my boss/landlord needs of me, deck building, painting, whatever. I love what I do, I think if I worked doing something else I'd get bored and want to get back on my mower or trim some tree limbs with a machete. Lol.

I love this idea renewed_hope
I always find it so interesting to hear about what people do for a living.

I stay home with my 2 boys (I home school them--grades 3 &9)
I'm also a vocal coach. I take people who already sing, and get to work with them to take their voices to the next level. The best part about this job is that I focus mainly on worship leaders and worship teams. I love it!

I am a senior manufacturing engineering technician at a medical device manufacturing company. I keep the equipment running, and do continuous improvement on it, along with working with engineers to develop manufacturing processes.

The medical devices we make are neurostimulation devices for people with chronic pain.

I've been an equipment maintenance tech for nearly 35 years now, everything from plastic injection molding to semi-conductor...
I must need a nap because each time you write "medical devices", I keep seeing "medieval devices" :p

Yes, I certainly DO get that song a lot (surprisingly it makes me smile every time though).
I love the fact that you sing. It's great to meet another musician/vocalist!

I have often wondered what it is my fellow CCers do for work. So in your responses please state your job title, if you are retired state what field you were in, if you are unemployed/disabled state the title you were in at your last job. Now, if you are still in school what field do you wish to get into. I figured its a good way to get to know one another :)
Disabled, but last job was owner/operator/president/bookkeeper/cleaning lady/chief soda glass washer of a home-based secretarial services and resume business.

And since no one usually knows what that means, I'll tell some of the jobs I had, (besides creating resumes and cover letters.)
-- Typed minutes from meetings for an architect and briefs for a lawyer.
-- Typed business cards at the exact right font size for a printer.
-- Created letters from Santa with specific information for that child during the Christmas season.
-- Created business cards and postcards for other one-person businesses.
-- Typed college papers for students while they slept.
-- Typed up 25,000 names and addresses off forms and envelopes when teen girls bought "free jeans."
-- Typed words on a piece of paper for a guy who liked to cut and paste words for political fodder.
-- Created a new menu for a breakfast-only restaurant.

I consider myself semi-retired and for the past year I have worked at a coffee and accessory distribution center in St. Petersburg, Florida. I'm considering to securing a position in some capacity in manfacturing again sometime at the start of the new year as I am highly experienced in that sector. Hopefully, in a couple years I will be able to retire full time if we are able to relocate. We are thinking about Tennessee or Colorado. Of course, looking at mountains every day may become boring after awhile but the threat of hurricanes each year in Florida is becoming problematic, not to mention the traffic congestion.
What's "and accessory" for coffee? Cups and lids, or is there something I should be buying for the coffee connoisseur in the family? (Christmas is coming, and hubby is one of those, "I don't need anything" kind of guys. lol)

Right now I am a full-time caregiver to my father. Technically I am unemployed and have been for the last 5 years, but I am very busy each day.

My last paying job was as a safety and health consultant. Before that, I was a safety specialist/industrial hygienist in charge of the safety programs for the 17 research farms Iowa State University oversees across the state, as well as an industrial hygienist for the asbestos abatement and management programs (I did visual inspections and read air samples via microscope).
If you're dad is on Social Security, are you aware you can get a stipend for taking care of him? It's very little money, but when your living on very little money any little bit helps.
