It means if I happen to have a memory I do not feel it anymore. I probably cannot stop flashbacks but I know I forgave when the memory does not hurt. If I still feel pain or anger, for me... I have not forgiven... It is really gone when my brain does not even go there anymore as a memory unless I on purpose make myself remember but no more bad feelings because G-d took it.... Forgiveness is forgetting... And forgetting is on purpose...
But what if you have a friend who keeps borrowing, and does not repay? Do you forget that they owe you and lend them some more?
If a neighbour keeps breaking into your house while you're away, do you forget and allow him to keep breaking in?
If you have a friend who gossips about you, do you forget and keep confiding in that friend?
I could go on with the scenarios.
But if forgiveness means that I forget the wrong that someone did me, then it means that I am back in the same position as before where they can keep hurting me. Is this what it means to forgive 70X7?
Was Jesus referring to forgiveness in this scripture: Luke 6:29-30
If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.
