Thank you. (I guess that's not the worst I have been called.)
The question in the OP was what does this song have to do with Christmas. The answer is nothing at all. You like the song fine. But it has nothing to do with Christmas and I wasn't responding to anything you wrote.

Leonard Cohen is not a Christian. He was born a Jew, tried to become a Monk (living in a Monastery for 6 years in the 90's) and he is still searching.... for something. He doesn't live my lifestyle, but I cannot condemn him as I have heard others doing here.

you say that you don't condemn him, but it is obvious that you identify with him???

"As I have heard others do here" sounds kind of condemning itself, does it not?
As a monk some god consciousness perhaps was present, is this the musician "Leonard Cohen"?
best wishes

"No", it is just stating what I have heard said here. Have you not read any of this thread?

Lord, YES !!!! Countless times I have had to tell God that "I messed things up again." How I wish I could say I walk the perfect path the way so many others seem to be doing.

Did you know that Leonard Cohen once said this:

"I'm very fond of Jesus Christ. He may be the most beautiful guy who ever walked the face of this earth. Any guy who said "Blessed are the poor. Blessed are the meek" has got to be a figure of unparalleled generosity and insight and madness... A man who declared himself to stand among the thieves, the prostitutes and the homeless. His position cannot be comprehended. It is an inhuman generosity. A generosity that would overthrow the world if it was embraced because nothing could weather that compassion. I'm not trying to alter the Jewish view of Jesus Christ. But to me, in spite of what I know about the history of legal Christianity, the figure of the man has touched me".

I can't berate him for not being a Christian as so many others seem inclined to do. I can only feel sad that it seems he never reached what he seemed to know was out there.

He was a Jew and didn't believe that Jesus was the Son of God. He's not great...

Spoken like a true __________________ ! (You fill in the blank.) :(

He understood "religion" as he was taught.... just like almost every single one of us did. I suspect his not embracing Christianity was more the fault of the people around him who claimed to follow Jesus.

It's because he was a Jew, they do not believe Jesus was the Messiah. I don't care if he was lukewarm about Jesus as a man. It's still blasphemy.

Its that simple fact we talk about, but don't seem to live too well. " We do not know another man's heart, nor do we know his relationship and position with God."

People could say a lot of derogatory things about us simply because we ran around in a robe with a rag tied around our head.

I do know his position and relationship with God tho. You said it right in your post: I'm not trying to alter the Jewish view of Jesus Christ.

Im not hating on the guy or saying hes a bad person but he rejects Jesus as the Son of God like most Jews. This isn't controversial, this is central to Jewish thinking.

And if you, I, or anyone here was born and raised Jewish, we would have the same beliefs.
