One of the reasons I joined this place was to see what Christians are "really" about.
I was raised as an atheist, I live in a very atheistic/agnostic country, almost all my friends are atheist.
The only experience I got with Christians so far are the more extreme people.

So I want to ask you? What do you think atheism is?

I have meet enough people on the internet that think atheism = anti-theism.
But it is actually greek where the "a" stands for "not" so it is not theist.
A theist is someone who believe in God/Gods. So atheist is someone that does not believe in God/Gods.
You can swap theist with stamp collector. I am just some one who does not collect stamps.

And those that say that atheism is a religion, is the same thing as saying not collecting stamps is a hobby (religion).
There is also no atheistic dogma or doctrine, hehe not that I know of.
Meaning that there is no opnions or ways to be as an atheist.
Saying that it does not mean that atheists are "immoral" and go about stealing, lying and whatsoever, not more than religious people do.

I am not against religion.

What are you experiences with atheism?

I will also add I am a pearlist.

Pearlist - 1 definition - 1. A person who believes in Physical Evidence And Reasoned Logic

Also I am not here to try and "deconvert" or just argue for the sack of argument.
I am just curious and want to meet new and interresting people.
And follow the rules of this forum/site.

What are you experiences with atheism / atheists?

That's exactly what I understand the word to mean.

as i understand it

the axiomatic statement of an athiest is....

"There is no god"

Now, the only way to make such a statement is to assume that you know everyting there is to know - nuff said

Most inclusively, atheism is simply the absence of belief that any deities exist. So its fair to say there is no god due to the lack of evidence Its just like saying there are no pixies due to the lack of evidence. There is no absolute, we cannot say threre is absolutely no way a god can exist, as in science nothing is absolute, as in mathematics we use probabilities.

Atheism is like someone who drops out of high school because they don't like it and believes that they can do without. Then there comes a time to get a really good job and they miss out. At the second coming they will also miss out. The saddest day in the life of a so called atheist is when something really really great happens in their life and find that they have no one to thank for it...Cheers
