At 30k that means 53% of this country makes less than you do. That's over half. And assuming there's 2 of you that means you don't even double the poverty line (16k for 2). Do you think it's right that so many people live that close to the poverty line while corporations sit on trillions that their employees helped them earn?
I'm aware the poverty line is below us. No. I'm not blaming people who had the gumption to supply a need. I blame it on two groups -- an ineffectual government and Christians who keep claiming it's anyone else's problem but theirs. God gave us the solution over 3000 years ago -- family takes care of family. Family is Christians, and yet, look who you want to take care of your responsibilities.

Do you know why I'm thankful the government does help? Because we've received $1020 from Christians to help over my entire Christian life. $1000 when we didn't need help! And then $500 was a gift from a brother that when he became strapped again later, he wanted us to pay back "the loan." It wasn't a loan. It was a gift!

I begged for help from any Christian I knew, (and a few Christian charities after that), back when we were living on $839 + food stamps ($258 a month) with a $550 mortgage that ultimately became a foreclosure notice when hubby was on chemo. THAT's when we got the $20 from a niece who gave more than she could afford. That's it. No other help from Christians. I couldn't even get a Christian to visit hubby in the hospital last spring when he really only needed another man to talk God with.

The government took over where the Church failed! And now I learn this thread is just another excuse to pass the buck? Yeah! Ineffectual but the only hope the poor have for everyday needs. Oh yeah, and we also get help from nonbelievers.

I know the poor. Comparatively, we aren't. I know them because I help them. The poor help the poor while the rich complain someone else should.

You're experiencing real guilt. You can't pass that buck!

I'm out of here. Heard enough whining from the they-shoulds.

Yeah, what Lynn said. Go attempt to start your own business if you insist on berating business owners for making money. You will soon find out it is no cake-walk. VERY SOON!
That is true, I once was a greenhorn business owner (together with my significant other) and there was alot of rough days back then. It started out as a Mom and Pop business, but has been growing since then. Long story short, I wanted to create my own life, career and money. If a person can't forsake alot for a long time first, then this is not a good idea.

The reward, though, is great, but years will pass first:).

...there seems to be an awful lot of support for the rich on this website...
Ya see, there is a problem with the premise you have. RICH is a RELATIVE term. Virtually everyone in this country would be considered "rich" if you compare them to many other countries, and historical terms for even those who would be considered wealthy then.

The poorest of us either always have enough to eat or have access to government programs or private pantries. Just that fact alone is an incredible blessing that we almost take for granted in the U.S.

There are many other things that other countries poor would consider a great luxury that most of us don't even think about.

I don't worry at all about anybody else's wealth. God bless them! I would rather have a bigger piece of pie, realizing that others may have a massive piece, than a smaller piece of pie that is the same for everybody.

In socialist terms, that's called equal or shared misery.

Those extremely wealthy people will be answerable to God for how they used the resources HE gave them.

Our first year out, we had 5 shows in a row where we lost $500 at each show. And we were already in debt with a heavy mortgage on our house to buy the business and the stock. If God had not sent a "nut" to us to prophesy directly to us at our counter, we just might have quit the whole deal right there.

That's rough, we were thinking along the same lines for a while. Almost no income, no holiday, no nothing, really, just a lot of hard working and expences. By the Grace of God, though, we got by:).

Without the rich, none of us would have jobs. None of us! And think how bad off all the "Entitlement People" would be if they had no one from whom to siphon their own living expenses? That "free" money they live off doesn't grow on trees. Without rich people creating the jobs we work to make the tax money the leaches of society sponge, they would be up the creek without a paddle.

A lesson in economics using bee.r
Here's another one of those spam emails that say something cute, or important, or idiotic. I enjoyed this one, it explains in simple terms the injustice of the graduated tax system. I'm sure some people will complain that it oversimplifies and that the analogy breaks down or doesn't fit, but I think its simple presentation fits VERY well. Graduated taxes penalize the successful, and that is essentially unjust. When we all get a tax reduction, it is entirely fair that those who PAID more get a bigger benefit from cuts. Those who argue otherwise are using Marxist ethics which are BANKRUPT and ethically and morally WRONG. You know, wicked, evil, bad for humanity. Really.
--------------------------
Suppose that every day, 10 men go out for beer and the bill for all 10 comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first 4 men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do. The 10 men drank in the bar every day & seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are all such good customers, he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. Drinks for the 10 now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first 4 men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other 6 men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?' They realized that $20 divided by 6 is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man & the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, & he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so:
The fifth man, like the first 4, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the 6 was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.

'I only got a dollar out of the $20', declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,' but he got $10!'

'Yeah, that's right', exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got 10 times more than me!'

'That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. Why should he get $10 back when I got only 2? The wealthy get all the breaks!'

'Wait a minute,' yelled the first 4 men in unison. 'We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'

The 9 men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the 9 sat down & had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even 1/2 of the bill!

That, boys & girls, journalists & college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy & they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

BUY AFLAC! (Disability insurance.)

I worked my own business for 18 months and did the most remarkable thing -- hit "in the black." (For those that don't know, the average time it takes to make a true profit; i.e. "in the black," is 7 years.) That same month I also had my first gallstone colic. Two months later, I had my gallbladder removed, and became disabled with a pinched nerve in my back. It was the same year AFLAC started having commercials on TV. If only I had known.

Try Welfare. When we hit flat-broke, we still didn't qualify for the whopping $300 cash Welfare gave a month, but we did qualify for Medicaid (which is the best health insurance we've ever had) and food stamps.

Our state governor turned down Medicaid money so don't know if it is even available for me... I go to the free clinic in Clearwater and pray to stay healthy....

For those who understand, no explanation is needed.
For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible.
You don't know how right you are on that:

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

1 Timothy 3:3 not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money.

Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.

Luke 16: No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth

Matthew 4:9-10 and he said to Him, "All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me." Then Jesus said to him, "Go, Satan! For it is written, 'YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.'"

James 4:4 You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

Matthew 13:22 And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Mark 4:19 but the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Luke 8:14 The seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity.

Matthew 19:21-22Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property.

Mark 10:21-22 Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, "One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." But at these words he was saddened, and he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property.

Luke 18:22-23 When Jesus heard this, He said to him, "One thing you still lack; sell all that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." But when he had heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.

1 Timothy 6:17 Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.

Job 31:24-28 If I have put my confidence in gold, And called fine gold my trust, If I have gloated because my wealth was great, And because my hand had secured so much; If I have looked at the sun when it shone or the moon going in splendor, And my heart became secretly enticed, And my hand threw a kiss from my mouth, That too would have been an iniquity calling for judgment, For I would have denied God above.

Psalm 52:6-7 The righteous will see and fear, And will laugh at him, saying, "Behold, the man who would not make God his refuge, But trusted in the abundance of his riches And was strong in his evil desire."

Proverbs 11:28 He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like the green leaf.

Jeremiah 49:4 How boastful you are about the valleys! Your valley is flowing away, O backsliding daughter who trusts in her treasures, saying, 'Who will come against me?'

Ezekiel 28:5 By your great wisdom, by your trade You have increased your riches And your heart is lifted up because of your riches

Psalm 62:10 Do not trust in oppression and do not vainly hope in robbery; If riches increase, do not set your heart upon them.

Proverbs 18:23 The poor man utters supplications, But the rich man answers roughly.

Proverbs 28:11 The rich man is wise in his own eyes, But the poor who has understanding sees through him.

Job 20:17-20 He does not look at the streams, The rivers flowing with honey and curds. He returns what he has attained And cannot swallow it; As to the riches of his trading, He cannot even enjoy them. For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor; He has seized a house which he has not built. Because he knew no quiet within him, He does not retain anything he desires.

Proverbs 15:6 Great wealth is in the house of the righteous, But trouble is in the income of the wicked.

Proverbs 30:8-9 Keep deception and lies far from me, give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with the food that is my portion, That I not be full and deny You and say, "Who is the LORD?" Or that I not be in want and steal, And profane the name of my God.

Deuteronomy 32:15 Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; filled with food, they became heavy and sleek. They abandoned the God who made them and rejected the Rock their Savior.

Nehemiah 9:25-26 They captured fortified cities and a fertile land They took possession of houses full of every good thing, Hewn cisterns, vineyards, olive groves, Fruit trees in abundance So they ate, were filled and grew fat, And reveled in Your great goodness. "But they became disobedient and rebelled against You, And cast Your law behind their backs And killed Your prophets who had admonished them So that they might return to You, And they committed great blasphemies.

Hosea 13:6 As they had their pasture, they became satisfied, And being satisfied, their heart became proud; Therefore they forgot Me.

Proverbs 23:4 Do not weary yourself to gain wealth, Cease from your consideration of it.

Haggai 1:3-5 Then the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet, saying, "Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses while this house lies desolate?" Now therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts, "Consider your ways!

Luke 16:19-21 Now there was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, joyously living in splendor every day. And a poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores, and longing to be fed with the crumbs which were falling from the rich man's table; besides, even the dogs were coming and licking his sores … 25 But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony

1 Timothy 6:8-9 If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content. But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction.

Leviticus 19:13 You shall not oppress your neighbor, nor rob him. The wages of a hired man are not to remain with you all night until morning.

Deuteronomy 24:12-15 If he is a poor man, you shall not sleep with his pledge. When the sun goes down you shall surely return the pledge to him, that he may sleep in his cloak and bless you; and it will be righteousness for you before the LORD your God. You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your countrymen or one of your aliens who is in your land in your towns.

Proverbs 22:16 He who oppresses the poor to make more for himself or who gives to the rich, will only come to poverty.

Isaiah 1:23 Your rulers are rebels And companions of thieves; Everyone loves a bribe And chases after rewards. They do not defend the orphan, Nor does the widow's plea come before them.

Jeremiah 22:13 Woe to him who builds his house without righteousness And his upper rooms without justice, Who uses his neighbor's services without pay And does not give him his wages,

Micah 6:12 For the rich men of the city are full of violence, Her residents speak lies, And their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

Malachi 3:5 Then I will draw near to you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers and against those who swear falsely, and against those who oppress the wage earner in his wages, the widow and the orphan, and those who turn aside the alien and do not fear Me," says the LORD of hosts.

James 2:6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court?

James 5:4 Behold, the pay off the laborers who mowed your fields, and which has been withheld by you, cries out against you; and the outcry of those who did the harvesting has reached the ears of the Lord of Sabbath.

Job 31:24, 25, 28 If I have put my confidence in gold, And called fine gold my trust, If I have gloated because my wealth was great, And because my hand had secured so much; ... That too would have been an iniquity calling for judgment, For I would have denied God above.

Psalm 52:7 Behold, the man who would not make God his refuge, But trusted in the abundance of his riches And was strong in his evil desire."

Proverbs 18:11 A rich man’s wealth is his strong city, And like a high wall in his own imagination.

Luke 12:20 "But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?'

James 5:1Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. 2Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. 3Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. 4Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. 5You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter.[SUP]a[/SUP]6You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.

Not sure how to take that poll. I make less than $25,000 a year for four people. Where does that put me? Poverty of course but not sure of the percentage

At 25k that puts your family at 53%, meaning that 47% of wage earners made less than you did.

Just trying to get a picture of the economic demographic that makes up this group at CC (in an effort to understand the overwhelming consensus that shortchanging workers in the effort to horde riches is ok). Thanks for pitching in!

My expenses are:
15k in taxes
15k in rent
3.5k in forced healthcare costs
2k for gas
1k for car insurance
That leaves me about 8k a year to live life, including buying food, clothing and meeting the needs of my two dogs. And for the record, life in Central New Jersey is way more expensive than 95% of all other areas in America.
But I'm happy!

Say what? Just because you're blaming everyone else doesn't mean we're playing your blame game. What about YOU?

You didn't even notice most of us supposedly "supporting the rich" aren't rich. We're poorer than you. So, does that mean we're supposed to post all those verses at YOU? Once again, you heard a need and are still on your "but it's not my fault" preaching. You just became yet another christian who ignored family.

Who, out of all the people who responded, even said they were out "seeking rich?"

One! YOU! And you're seeking the rich to take care of the poor so you don't have to.
