One thing that I've always wondered is why Christians who believe in evolution get persecuted so much? This seems to happen so often on CC, and it's quite disheartening. Somehow, only on this site am I not accepted as a "true Christian" because I do not take the creation story literally. Yet, in my community of academics and in my Bible study, I am considered a very faithful Christian. I told my Bible study students that I believe in evolution. Some disagreed with me, but we just shrugged our shoulders and moved onto worship.

I believe that God is the creator of this universe. Does it really matter how exactly it came to be? We still have an awesome God to praise. I believe that Jesus died so we might find salvation through him, yet I let slip that the Earth is probably older than we think, and I'm a heretic! Am I sinning in some sort of way by believing this?

Whether one believes the Earth was created in six days or over billions of years, what does it really matter? Neither opinion indicates a true follower of Christ! How hostile some of the creationists and the evolutionists seem to be reacting to each other seems to give me doubts about who really are taking to heart the message of Jesus.

Thoughts, anyone?
Let's get to the real root of this issue. It isn't a debate of a physical occurance, but a spiritual
mindset toward God. The Bible says God created man in His image, but with evolution, man is
just another link. Holding to the concept of evolution, is making your God an animal. Its paganism,
masked with science. In paganism, their gods can be animals and they worship the animals. If God
used evolution, to create man, then God is the image of all He has created. People very seldom
look to or try to understand the spiritual, and God's word is spiritually discerned. They allow
themselves to get wrapped up with the clutter of the mind, and fail to see the simple spiritual
truth that is right in front of them. A lot of false doctrine can be corrected, if people would just
spiritually discern their own thoughts. God will open one's mind and reveal the truth. That
squishy gray matter that most have between their ears, isn't the best device to use when trying
to understand God's word.

River, I think your generation has been specifically attacked (spiritually) in government schools, and it's all part of the plan of the enemy
to blind little eyes to the Truth, and to de-humanize humans, who are created in the very image and likeness of God!

Do you really wish to believe that your ancestors were apes? *eek*

The same scientists who think we are descended from apes, when they need to do research on our connective tissue, use a pig. And when they do research on our brain tissue, they use a mouse. If they really thought we are descended from apes, why do that? Where does the strange DNA come from in the ape evolution?

Quickest way to prove God is in control, and not evolution: We can make up fictional stories (and video games) where we can live on as yet non-existent worlds, deal with non-existent animals, beings, and even new scientific laws (like the Jedi's methelchlorine index from Star Wars). Evolution operates (as experiments on short term evolution proves) by maximizing survival potential. There is no survival potential in being able to handle non-existent problems. Evolution is wasting its time if it made us.

The same proof works for creation by God, also. There would be no point in Him making us able to function in other worlds, unless we were one day going to be there. That proves eternal life, right there.

I've gone to private, Christian schools all my life. They aren't funded by the government, I don't think.

And I don't find evolution dehumanizing at all. Rather, it shows us how we were made to be different than other animals, despite our genetic similarities.

Our DNA is similar enough to run tests on pigs and mice. There's more ethical issues around experimenting on apes and such.
