Typically, yes, meals are called breakfast, dinner, supper. But, some of us Americans don't use those terms and supper and dinner can sometimes be used to mean the evening meal. The midday meal would be lunch. If a meal is being held as a get-together for family, then that is dinner no matter what time of day it happens. Confusing. Sloppy with the language.
