Hey there. I have a question. Several times now I've been publicly shamed in the chatrooms for not paying the $24 per year. I enjoy the fellowship, but my four kids and I live in poverty and all of our bills are paid to the dollar. Every month we are in the negative when it comes to even buying food. I guess my question is, why is each member (there must be many) paying $24 per month when must other sites of this nature are free? How is that money spent? Why are poor people shammed for using the app but not paying? But most importantly, what is the monthly fee for (itemized?)?

How does anyone know who pays or not? Did you let them know? How were you shamed? One thing about this particular site is it is ad free. So, $$ helps keep it running.

I know one person who is frequently in chat and making a big deal out of paying for membership. I've never seen this person trying to shame anybody else though.

SecondHandHippie: If somebody is getting on your case in chat, you should probably report it to a moderator.

As a "poor people," got to say, I've never been shamed. (Never been to the chat part either.) I've been asked, but not shamed. And once I told why I can't, that was the end of asking.

If I ask you for $5, am I shaming you? I figure you have every right to say no, but I have every right to ask. And, I can guarantee you won't be sending me a five dollar check if I don't ask. Would you have even thought to do that, if you weren't asked? True, you aren't planning on sending me the check even now that you do know I asked, but the asking is the only way most people get this site cost money.

As for Rob et. al.? You do get this is his livelihood, right? I think it's nice that he lets us sit at the table, even if we're not ordering anything. And the way I pay back is by making the conversation interesting, in hopes of bringing in customers who can/do pay! And, I'll even bus my own glass of water, if they want. lol

BTW, isn't it true that to get the app, you have to have some kind of video-thingy on your doohickey (whether the doohickey is a computer, laptop, or phone), and Internet access? Even if you do that cheap, it's still, at least, $1000 a year.

We really are poor, yet still have Internet access and computers, because this is our entertainment budget, but we wouldn't have this if it meant we couldn't afford food too.

Food wasn't ever a big problem -- between food banks and food stamps, food was covered. For us the scary bills were electric, gas, and water. For our creditors, the mortgage seemed to be their biggest reason to bug us about bills. The one that freaks me out the most is the insurance bills. A bit perplexing why I'm paying twice what the car is worth each year to make sure everyone else is okay if they hit us.
