A CROWN OF GLORY

Queen Elizabeth II has finally laid down her crown after serving the Commonwealth of 54 nations for 70 years. There was an outpouring of respect and grief for such a gracious and faithful monarch. Millions took the opportunity to watch or attend her funeral with all its pomp and ceremony, while others wonder why we should continue to keep ancient traditions like the monarchy.
Of course to become king or queen, you must be born into the royal family and be trained for many years for such a responsibility. Only one man could be born a king - the Lord Jesus Christ. Wise men traveled from a far country to Jerusalem and asked, ‘Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we are come to worship him’ (Matthew 2:2).

What about ordinary people like you and me? Dear friend, here’s good news for you, no matter who you may be and no matter what family you were born into. God sent Jesus Christ to bless you. If you turn to God your Heavenly Father and receive the Lord Jesus Christ, you can become a child of God, a member of God’s Royal Family! And the marvellous thing is that this privilege is for everyone including you!

The Lord Jesus Christ is the King of all kings, yet He cares about you. He said, “Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out” (John 6:37). You can come to Him with full confidence that He will not reject you. Your Creator God who is your loving Father wants to share His throne with you and give you a crown.

This is the message of the Holy Bible, the Book that was placed in the hands of the Queen when she was crowned in 1953, with the words: “Here is Wisdom; This is the royal Law; These are the lively Oracles of God.” She then vowed to “maintain the Laws of God and the true profession of the Gospel.” Have you ever looked into this Book?

In the Holy Bible, a sorrowful woman was transformed when she learnt to pray. God gave her a joyful song: ‘My heart rejoices in the LORD. He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts up the beggar, to make them inherit the throne of glory’ (1 Samuel 2:1,8). How could you and I inherit a throne and receive a crown?

The Bible tells us how God the Father made it possible. He came down to earth to be born into a poor family in Nazareth, a despised town in a country overrun by a ruthless foreign power. God the Son was born to a virgin without a sinful human father as foretold in the Bible: “Behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel (God with us)” (Isaiah 7:14). Thus He was fully God and fully human.

The King of the Universe left His throne and came down as a sinless man, the only One who could pay the price for our sins. For 30 years He lived as a carpenter without a crown, a title or riches. Then He humbly taught about His heavenly kingdom. There was no royal carriage, no fanfare of trumpets when he entered Jerusalem on a borrowed donkey. Little children sang His praises but the religious leaders blindly rejected Him and plotted to kill Him.

In God’s perfect time Jesus suffered for the sins of the whole world. As King David foretold in Psalm 22, His hands were pierced on a cross, a cruel punishment reserved for the worst criminals. Later one of His followers, a fisherman, wrote that Jesus Christ’ his own self bore our sins in his own body on the tree (the cross),that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness’ (1 Peter 2:24).

This was His purpose in coming to earth: to deliver us from our sins that separate us from God, and make us right with God. Because of our sins we are under the power of Satan, God’s enemy. Those who receive Jesus Christ as Saviour are delivered from Satan’s cruel rule. The body of our Lord Jesus was laid in a borrowed tomb but on the third day He arose from the dead, triumphant over death, sin and hell. Over 500 saw Him alive from the dead.

Before He went back to Heaven, Jesus Christ said, “All power (authority) is given unto me” (Matthew 28:18). He is now seated on the right hand of God the Father, where He is praying for you to be saved. He is the King who can set us free from the power of sin and help us in our time of deepest need. He understands our sufferings for He was “despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief” (Isaiah 53:3).

The Lord Jesus Christ is King of kings; on His head are “many crowns,” so He has power to give you a crown (Revelation 19:12,16). We could never achieve such a great position ourselves, just as it is impossible for us to become part of the British Royal Family. If you come to Christ He will come to live in you by the Holy Spirit. Then He will train and prepare you to reign with Him.

This is the good news, the Gospel of our Lord Jesus. He says in the Scriptures, “Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life” (Revelation 2:10; 20:4 & 22:5). What a joy to be crowned with a never fading crown by our loving Lord Jesus Christ! He was crowned with thorns so that you can receive a crown and reign with Him for ever. Make sure you do not miss out on such a crown of glory.

It's easy, just choose tracts that exclude troublesome verses like John 3:16 where Jesus rebuked a teacher who believed in persevere in the faith(not osas once saved always saved.)

Can't you mix it up a little? I've been expecting that line ever since this thread started. Give us a little variety.
