My wife thinks a bowl of veggies is the greatest desert. (a little delusional ).
Her mom and one of her brothers have the biggest sweet tooth (like me).
So, so much for it being purely cultural.

Our bodies are genetically predisposed to want sugar.

I think it's largely because back just a couple hundred years ago (and still in many parts of the world) it was hard to get ENOUGH calories, so any extra were helpful. Now that things are largely mechanized and most of us have desk jobs, many of us find it to be difficult to eat few enough calories, especially with high-calorie food being so easy to obtain.

In short, my assumption is that we were programmed to survive in a world with fewer calories, like a post-Eden, hard-to-crop land :).

most foods that are good for you are good for you and it might take 15 minutes or so to satisfy your hunger, but sweets immediately make you smile inside.

I actually do not like sweet stuff A LOT. In moderation only. I prefer slightly seasoned to sweet for most foods.

If we were to go a week without sugar I wonder if I would choose the room with sugary foods or would I choose the room with all kinds of fruit and vegetables?

Peanut butters used to be 'salty' bec. of the butter i was told. Now i know no brands here that arent sweet. Even jif and skippy wc are imported are mostly sweet. Oh, how to talk abt savory stuff now... when i have to go in minutes.

I used to love sweet stuff. Now I stay away from it for health reasons.
Let me go back to the thread... i knew i wanted to reply some more but before i know it, many other posts hve come and gone.

What i was thinking was, sweet stuff are indeed irresistible, but a point (sometimes) suddently comes when a doc says it is 'bawal' or prohibited, for a time at least. (I dont really know many doctors say this.) There are cases like various infections, candida, etc. where they really advise almost no sugar to starve yesasts or fungi that trigger all other symptoms they say. So how did u deal with it, like gradually or what.. tnx.

Btw thanks again for the other replies.

Seems to work best to go "cold turkey", meaning totally stop all of a sudden. Feels frustrating for a few days, but then it's easy, at least for me :).

Some of us are born with a sweet tooth and then there are a select few that are born with sweet teeth! I'm part of the latter. Wish I weren't though! LOL

Mostly sweet drinks, desserts, candied fruit, etc. Just wondering what others think.
Because God created us to associate sweet tasting stuff subcontiously with calories. Calories mean energy and help keep us alive.
