You're speaking specifically of depression so normally getting one's life back in balance is the trick (unless you have clinical depression of course and need medical care to treat it).

Definitely, exercise and nutrition are part of that. Start with some light exercise. Even walking for thirty minutes every other day is going to have a positive effect on depression as the body's nervous and endocrine system begin creating "happy" chemicals such as endorphins in the brain.

Next, get the trash can out and dump all the junk food and empty carbs into it. Replace the junk with vegetables, fruit, protein powder, etc... Snacks should be healthy like hot air pop corn with fat free imitation butter spray, etc... Most dollar stores now stock vegetables and fruits so you're grocery bill may tumble which is also a good thing.

Take a good vitamin supplement and learn teas. They're extremely varied, quite useful, and tasty whether hot or cold. A LOT more can be said on nutrition. Learn that and adjust accordingly.

Finally, clean up your living space and take care of old business. Living in a pig pen with a lot of deferred stuff weighs on a person.

"None of These Diseases" by S. I. McMillen, MD is an excellent book of information regarding health & nutrition.

Also I gleaned a lot of wonderful information from Jethro Kloss' book, "Back to Eden"

AOF = Thanks for your advice i have a walking disability so i find exercise very hard which is a shame because i used to be a gym instructer and i do know how important exercise is for the brain. As for living in a pig pen i have OCD and my surroundings couldnt be more clean but this statement did make me giggle x

Violet,

good for you sweetie,

as for the BACK to EDEN book, we know that our Lord definitely led us
to this wonderful book of natural healing.....along with the Lord, some of the remedys
literally saved our lives....we had to make many 'life-style' changes and this took a lot
of dedication and discipline....which when we began our new journey, we didn't have a
lot of that, but since our hearts were in the right place, Jesus helped us to keep on
and persist in learning and living this new lifestyle...this was truly a miracle, as we
were totally enmeshed in worldly bad habits of health....:)

when we try something and it works, then there is our solid proof, and the plus is that
it worked for BOTH of us.......

the hardest part of course is getting rid of the worldly trash that is pushed down our throats
practically from the crib.....

Like one person said about vitamins. I take many separately though and get high quality. A raw B complex, liquid vitamin D and Cod liver oil all help to elevate mood.

Often, both our physical and mental problems are alleviated more by getting rid of certain foods and drinks in our diets, than in adding some hopefully, "magical" potions.

Yes, I started eating healthy and my health improved! But we also don't absorb the nutrients (at least not me) so taking supplements are a good way to get how much you need. Food is not the same today as it was a long time ago.

I imagine there would be a level of internal conflict for a gym instructor who now has a walking disability. I'm emoting empathy over that one. If it were me, I'd want access to a swimming pool.

I was amazed at how just the removal of aspartame made such a difference for some people. Apparently, the aspartame in so many diet drinks and foods depresses serotonin production in the brain creating depression.

One guy I know who was in almost a state of clinical depression stopped all aspartame and started walking each day and became a fairly happy guy within two weeks.

I like teas and Zevia but now with this new Aspartame free diet Pepsi just coming to market:

Depends on how intense those feelings are, if they come and go..
If you can still function eat, sleep, work etc.
then herbal remedies can help, like st john wart for depression, kava kava for anxiety, samE is a god one I heard, you have to give all of these more than a week to notice a difference, these are the ones that help, to me, you might research and find others you like too
