Hi, After missing church for around 35 years (weddings funerals and baptisms excepted) I was called by Jesus Christ in 2001 and went back to attending churches on and off possibly beginning in 2002. As a student of acupuncture (1996-1999) I joined Dao as Acupuncture is the medical aspect of that group. I asked for literature and they told me that the true Dao (Tao) does not have literature ( the stuff of the shelves of bookshops etc is misleading) but that I was free to choose any of the great religious writings as a basis of my searching. I chose the bible because of some familiarity and this time I found I was hungry for the word. I was just past the 50 year old mark at this time. My previous attempts to delve into the bible (there had been a couple) failed because of sheer boredom.
I moved to Thaland, married (in a buddist ceremony) and lived there for 5 years. Around the 10th month into my stay a curious event happened to me. This event was not the first as for some time, guess a year of more, I had been experiencing many strange events. This event was on my awakeing I had this terribly strong desire to wear sackcloth. How does this happen, I had no idea, but it was just with me, strongly. My wife lived at her work site 5 days of the week and I spoke no Thai, so I just searched and looked in market places for sackcloth. To me sackcloth was the material used in potato bags and chicken feed bags and sugar bags. Afer a couple of fruitless days searching I saw a man dressed in green garbage bags, obviously a begger. I said to God, "If you want me to wear green garbage bags I will but you must ask me again." Instantly the desire to wear sackcloth left me. I did not have any sense of sackcloth and its place in scripture as I was just reading bits of the bible and had been away from the bible all of my adult life.
Some very short time after this, during a break at a school where I was teaching English, I think I asked God if I could heal. Instantly, and very scarily, before the thought had really finalised in my mind, an strong external voice said to me, "I have far greater work for you to do......................" On going home, I opened the bible and the first thing I read was Rev. 11:3 eg "you will be my witness wearing sackcloth" not quoted. Then I understood the sackcloth. Without this cross referencing I would never have believed. It wouild be impossible to go into Christ's supermarket and choose such a gift from such a high shelf.
Christ has been working through me ever since.
Possibly in 2008, I was reading an article from the web on the 2 witnesses and came across this.
The hebrew word, ed, means witness. I was born in 1940's and christianed edwin. Often called ed by people.
