I remember when I was a little kid, these really erudite protestant preachers used to get up on the platform and actually stand there arguing with catechism books, which I never checked out, partly because I only have so much time in the day for study of any kind, and partly because European history just wasn't my special interest. Later I read one and found out that what they were saying had almost nothing at all to do with anything at all, they were just being conspiratorial Americans who wanted to keep Anglo French religions out of the political side of their...messages, Packages, whatever.
Aside from the fac that they were guilty of civil crimes, however secretive, obscure, and difficult to prove, religiously I later got to thinking that all those competing commentaries were a bit of a waste of paper.
