So I was on one of my walks and was thinking about how wonderful it would be to be able to help the needy or save a life, and then a thought that has never crossed my mind came up. What if I donated an organ? If I could give one of my working organs to help or save another even if it meant I would either die or have to suffer for the rest of my life from it I can't even begin to explain what an honor it would be.
I just need to know the basics of giving, like first off if it costs money as I have none, second since I am 22 but I have a legal Guardian would I need her permission to do it? because my mom simply would not allow it, it has to be my choice and it has to be up to me not her in order to do it. It just bugs me that so many have the opportunity and ability to do this who are not willing or don't even care and yet here I am more than willing yet I don't even know if I am able to

I don't know if it costs money. They would never let you donate an organ that would kill you if they took it out. Although it's very sweet of you to want to do that. You know you could donate bone marrow, that's one thing that's needed if you're a match with someone. There is surgery involved but you could save someone's life. If you ever knew someone that needed a Kidney and you were a match you could live with one kidney.

There's alot more to it than that, Blain. Your organs would have to be A PERFECT MATCH for the other person, and even if it was, with your numerous health problems, they would probably not qualify you as a viable candidate. Secondly, there are risks to donating your organs to someone else. YOU may get sick as a result of having only one kidney, for example. The person who receives the transplant may reject the organ for any number of reasons. You and the other person would have to take anti-rejection meds for the rest of your lives. While your zest to help others is commendable, it is not recommended that you part with any of your body organs.. LOL. :) Usually when transplants are done, they try to find a familial match within the persons family.

Take me for example. Your kidney may not be the right fit for me. It may be too small, too big, or just plain no good at all. Even people who donate blood, or receive transfusions, have to be typed and crossed and matched. My blood type is AB-NEG. That is a universal type so I can also receive AB-Plus and O-Neg as well without any problems. If YOUR blood type was B-Plus, you would be an incompatible blood match for me, because your blood type would kill me if I were to receive it. And I'm too young to die yet, so keep your blood away from me!! lol jk :)

it's a beautiful thing to be willing to die for another...

but sometimes it's harder to live for another.

Geez, I can't volunteer because I have no ride I can't give to charity because I have no money and even if I did my mom wouldn't allow it and now I can't give one of my organs to save a persons life. Life is way to unfair:(

Blain, my shared adopted son....Your Blond mom takes a nap for 3 hours and wakes up to find that you are trying to give away your body parts......No, No.......God created you with those body parts because you need them to live.

I want you to know that you do have a purpose in life and you are living up to that purpose in that you are such an encouragement to us all who read your posts. You have such a kind, sweet heart and you love God and give us good posts of that love and encouragement that shares the love that you have for God.

If you want to try and donate your organs have it put on your ID so that at your NATURAL death maybe you could help someone. I see you wrote that your organs would not be able to be used, but maybe your eyes would be o.k. but again only at your natural death many years from now when you are 90 or 100 o.k.?

I am thinking though that Jesus will return before you hit 100 years old.... This old world is not fair that is for sure but you have a following here on CC and we need your up beat spirit and your words of encouragement to keep the smiles on our faces and the laughter in our hearts o.k.? So stop the talk about donating your organs o.k.? Since I don't sleep right I have to do it when I can....So please let your Blond adopted mom take a nap now and then and not worry about you giving something away that you need yourself.... I see you are going to try and keep me on my toes.....I have my eyes on you. Thank God Psychomom had her eyes on you while I was sleeping....I can see now you need us both to keep watching you....We are you know....watching that is as that is what adopted moms do.....

They do not need to be perfect matches. There is a little leeway. But the better the match the less of a chance the organ will be rejected. Though there may be different standards for different organs.
As far as size and all that, they don't do anything until they can match you up with someone. They aren't going to just go yank out an organ and try to put it in someone and go 'oh well, doesn't fit'. There are a serious of compatibility tests you have to go through so they can know who you will match and who you won't.
The level of compatibility can be a factor (depending on the organ, but as a living donor kidney would be most likely) in determining how long the organ will last. Kidney transplants are not permanent. They last anywhere from 10-25 years. 25 being quite rare and often it is a family member.
And while family is ideal, most transplants do not include family donations. But living donors are preferred when possible.
Also the donors health is thoroughly tested, as well as the person needing the transplant. Not only physically but mentally (at least for the one in need). From what i hear often times the donor has a harder time.
Though i'm not sure why a donor needs to go on anti-rejection meds. There is nothing to reject.
I know all of this because inn 12/21/12 i received a kidney transplant. The donor was not family, but a stranger to me who had died in an undisclosed manner. The kidney was larger than mine. It was highly compatible to me.
I know you said you aren't able to donate, but it's still may be useful for anyone who might consider donating. At the very least you can become and organ donor when you die. I think usually the DMV will give you this option when getting your license or ID. You should still be able to sign up even after you get your license. Though i'm not sure how they handle that with people who already have health issues. My guess is it depends on the health problem.

Blain- You can donote your time to help the needy more than an organ transplant would do. You can involve yourself with the Prayer Requests, and really intercede for these people.

It is behind the scenes, but has more power than any charity work you could do.

No worries I will do my best to shine the light and love of God here in cc, he put me here in this situation for a reason and if it isn't for encouraging others showing love and growing strong in him then I don't know what it is.

You can pray for people, encourage, and help the needy accordingly, please be guided by the word of God, otherwise all your good work will ruin you.

God bless!

I don't think it will ruin me because I am not doing this to prove my faith or to show works, its not about me at all. I am doing this because I deeply love and care for others. Lots of people don't know why they were created what role they have or what they were destined to do, but I do. I was created to love serve encourage and help others, I literally live to serve the needy and the poor, i crave to show love and kindness to those who have never been shown.
None of this is about me it never was and it never will be. Life, faith, eternity, it was all about God and all others it was never about me. Why do you think I am willing to go so far to help and save others? I already said I would give an organ even if it killed me even if I had to suffer for the rest of my life because of it.

From the moment I was saved I swore to God that I was not after an ordinary love, or an ordinary faith and not an ordinary love. I was after a dangerous level of faith and love knowing full well of the great and terrible cost. But I accepted this from the start, I knew that I may very well have to suffer greatly for God and for others sake, I knew I might lose everything and that I could even die. You have no idea the honor it would be for me to die or suffer greatly so that another wouldn't have to.
So yes maybe if I had any other motive or reason for all this then yes it could ruin me but I am doing this because of love. Believe me if there comes a time where I am able to give a body part of mine so another can have it or I die so another won't have to or I suffer greatly so another wont have to I will jump at that chance.

Although my two mom's here might ground me...;b

aww♥ ty for looking out for me mom, but there may come a time where i may do something to save another or suffer greatly so they won't have to and I may very well die. But this is what we Christians do, we die so another won't have to, we suffer so they won't have to and some of us were created for this very thing. I know my place in God's kingdom, I know why I was created and I may one day get the desire of my heart. But if you lose me I wouldn't worry because if I go before you you won't be far behind, you know because Jesus is coming for his bride soon.
