John 8:42-47Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”

John 7:17-18 If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but HE WHO WORKS FOR THE HONOR OF THE ONE WHO SENT HIM IS A MAN OF TRUTH; there is nothing false about him.

New International Version 1984 Matthew 28:18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to OBEY EVERYTHING I HAVE COMMANDED YOU. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

John 8:31-32 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “IF YOU HOLD TO MY TEACHINGS, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John 20:21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, i am sending you.”

Hi Ljs, I'm leaning Catholicism as well. benhur's lack of eternal security dove tails nicely with "Purgatory." Half of my family were practicing Catholics and I went with non-denominational conservative Christian theology, a blessing from God.

benhur's is without dispute promoting a "grace plus works salvation", and knowing my families Catholic background they were very legalistic about maintaining their Catholic liturgy and good works.

I prayerfully hope that one day benhur will reveal his "Church affiliation" and stand up for Jesus.

You could be right. It would explain why he does not want to admit his denominational affiliation. And his lack of understanding, and why his creating contradictions does not bother him.

2 Corinthians 4 : 18
18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Romans 8 : 24-25
24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has?
25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
Hebrews 9 : 27-28
27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,
28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

Philippians 3 : 12-21
12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
13 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
15 All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.
16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained.
17 Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you.
18 For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.
19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things.
20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,
21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

I did notice that "lightbearer" disagreed with me and I am sorry he could not take the time to tell everyone here why he disagreed.
Is it an oxymoron to call yourself by a name that is not indicative of what you actually put off.......???

I have met a few Born Again Catholics in my life. Two of them were Priests, and I asked one of them why do you stay in the Catholic Church. He answered because GOD wants me hear. I get to teach them sermons that might get a few of the SAVED. He knew that many of them are worshiping Mary, so he uses the sermons to lead them back to CHRIST.

Seriously; "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans3:23
If we say that we have no sin we are deceived and the truth is not in us....Imagine that verse...

To have the TRUTH IN YOU you must be willing to admit that you have sin present

By staying, he and others get to proclaim the Truth.

HOWEVER JESUS is NOT talking about CATHOLICS, HE is talking about the PAGANS, and while WANT TO CALL CATHOLICS, PAGANS, THAT IS FAR FROM THE TRUTH. The are no different that other religions religions like Seventh Day Advent. The are Border Line, and they are getting a few people saved. I believe that Catholics are ONE of the SEVEN Types of Churches that JESUS HIMSELF, walks around, and HE RECOGNIZES THEM AS ONE OF HIS SEVEN TYPES OF CHURCHES, WHO ARE WE TO RECOGNIZE LESS.

Here is the Seven major points of Protestant Doctrine, that MOST of the Mainline Denominations, can agree on:

1. THE DEITY OF CHRIST, and the Doctrine of the Holy Trinity.

2. Salvation is by GRACE through Faith, NOT BY WORKS.

3. Christ Died for our Sins, and physically rose from the grave.

4. Genuine Christians have received Jesus Christ as LORD (Master), thus He becomes our Savior. Therefore we know Him in our hearts, instead of just knowing about Him in our heads.

5. We must be spiritually BORN AGAIN, by the Holy Spirit, bringing our own spirit to LIFE; and immersing us into the spiritual Body of Christ, or we are not Saved.

6. NO Christian is sinless, but as we mature spritually, we will sin less and less. ALL have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.

7. JESUS CHRIST will come from Heaven to resurrect us and receive us unto Himself, giving us a gorified body that will not die again, and will not have sin in it.

<><.🕇.><>

NOW, let's see what the Catholics teach on those subjects. I will use the online Catholic Catechism published by the Vatican itself. It is equal to a Doctinal Statement of Faith, used by most Protestant Churches, just more complicated. First I will establish that they believe the Bible is the Inspired Word of GOD and then I will show you they agree with the 7 points that you agreed with 100%.

QUOTE:

THE CATHOLIC CATECHISM:
. . .

105 God is the author of Sacred Scripture. "The divinely revealed realities, which are contained and presented in the text of Sacred Scripture, have been written down under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit."

. . .

107 The inspired books teach the truth. "Since therefore all that the inspired authors or sacred writers affirm should be regarded as affirmed by the Holy Spirit, we must acknowledge that the books of Scripture firmly, faithfully, and without error teach that truth which God, for the sake of our salvation, wished to see confided to the Sacred Scriptures."
. . .
II. "I Know Whom I Have Believed"16

To believe in God alone

150 Faith is first of all a personal adherence of man to God. At the same time, and inseparably, it is a free assent to the whole truth that God has revealed. As personal adherence to God and assent to his truth, Christian faith differs from our faith in any human person. It is right and just to entrust oneself wholly to God and to believe absolutely what he says. It would be futile and false to place such faith in a creature.17
To believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God

151 For a Christian, believing in God cannot be separated from believing in the One he sent, his "beloved Son", in whom the Father is "well pleased"; God tells us to listen to him.18 The Lord himself said to his disciples: "Believe in God, believe also in me."19 We can believe in Jesus Christ because he is himself God, the Word made flesh: "No one has ever seen God; the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has made him known."20 Because he "has seen the Father", Jesus Christ is the only one who knows him and can reveal him.21
To believe in the Holy Spirit

152 One cannot believe in Jesus Christ without sharing in his Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who reveals to men who Jesus is. For "no one can say "Jesus is Lord", except by the Holy Spirit",22 who "searches everything, even the depths of God. . No one comprehends the thoughts of God, except the Spirit of God."23 Only God knows God completely: we believe in the Holy Spirit because he is God.

The Church never ceases to proclaim her faith in one only God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
16 - 2 Tim 1:12,

17 - Jer 17:5-6; Ps 40:5; 146:3-4,

18 - Mk 1:11; 9:7,
19 - Jn 14:1,

20 - Jn 1:18,

21 - Jn 6:46; Mt 11:27,

22 - I Cor 12:3,
23 - I Cor 2:10-11.

. . .

156 What moves us to believe is not the fact that revealed truths appear as true and intelligible in the light of our natural reason: we believe "because of the authority of God himself who reveals them, who can neither deceive nor be deceived". So "that the submission of our faith might nevertheless be in accordance with reason, God willed that external proofs of his Revelation should be joined to the internal helps of the Holy Spirit." Thus the miracles of Christ and the saints, prophecies, the Church's growth and holiness, and her fruitfulness and stability "are the most certain signs of divine Revelation, adapted to the intelligence of all"; they are "motives of credibility" (motiva credibilitatis), which show that the assent of faith is "by no means a blind impulse of the mind".

. . .

162 Faith is an entirely free gift that God makes to man.

. . .

178 We must believe in no one but God: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
179 Faith is a supernatural gift from God. In order to believe, man needs the interior helps of the Holy Spirit.

. . .
781 Conscience enables one to assume responsibility for the acts performed. If man commits evil, the just judgment of conscience can remain within him as the witness to the universal truth of the good, at the same time as the evil of his particular choice. the verdict of the judgment of conscience remains a pledge of hope and mercy. In attesting to the fault committed, it calls to mind the forgiveness that must be asked, the good that must still be practiced, and the virtue that must be constantly cultivated with the grace of God:

. . .

1847 "God created us without us: but he did not will to save us without us." To receive his mercy, we must admit our faults. "If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

END QUOTE

Now I am not Catholic, but back when was younger I decided to read through the Catholic Catechism, to see WHY many were spreading False Beliefs about our Christian Brothers the Catholics. I had to reach the conclusion, that it was PURE IGNORANCE, about their Beliefs. As far as I know, every Catholic still has to study this Catechism and take a test on it, before he or she can be Confirmed in the Catholic Church. Do I believe they have some false ideas in the Catholic Church? Sure, BUT SO DO THE PROTESTANTS. And if your denominational bigotry was taught to you by your Church, then YOUR CHURCH too, has some serious false teachings. Do I believe there is such a thing as a PERFECT denominational Church that has EVERYTHING RIGHT? NO! I believe fallible human beings, never have been perfect, and will not be Perfect until we get that infallible, glorified body when HE calls us out of this earth.

It does not get any plainer..........Our righteous works have ZERO to do with Salvation!

English Standard Version
he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,

Berean Study Bible
He saved us, not by the righteous deeds we had done, but according to His mercy, through the washing of new birth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

Berean Literal Bible
He saved us, not by works in righteousness that we did, but according to His mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

New American Standard Bible
He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,

King James Bible
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Amen...our "works" or actions are tge manifestation of whats inside...a changed heart..and if we LOVE HIM we will want to do what Pleases him and it wonr be a chored to do it :)

Ummmmm, not hardly........and I have never been a member of a church that taught

a. A man is the vicar of God and speaks for God
b. Mary can intercede on our behalf and has pull with JESUS
c. To worship bone fragments, hair, teeth and statues
d. That one must do the 7 sacraments to be saved or a member of the Catholic church
e. That men can absolve sin
f. That one can buy the right to sin (indulgences)
g. etc...

NAY my friend....they are NOT one of the 7 churches that JESUS walks around in and to even imply this is to totally yank Revelation out of context and misapply the word of God....and even deeper than that...the Catholic church is pagan, worships a god that we do not worship and is as false as they come...

HOWEVER....I do believe there re SOME Catholics that have seen the truth and are saved, but make no mistake...Catholic dogma will take people straight to hell....it is a false religion at it's core.

To have the TRUTH IN YOU you must be willing to admit that you have sin present
To not be deceived you must be willing to admit that you have sin present

Imagine that <---all the sinless perfectionists that say that they do not sin or are above sin.......
It's interesting and I could be wrong but the process can be the same.

I've noticed recently some saying they are totally obedient, and as a result they are saved. Totally = 100%

They say things like "I have forgiven every sin committed against me before die, you must do the same because of not you are spending eternity away from Jesus"

Yet when you present a scenario to them that if they died before a chance to forgive them they say they will have the chance when they stand before God"

So they have a chance considering this after death yet as for others who do not follow or accept their false theological bent "Tough titty as we say over here"

Then we see a sheep can go astray and as a result is disobedient and unless they return then it's hell.

They dismiss the words of Jesus about the lost sheep, him seeking it out.
A lost sheep will not find it's way back on its own.

They then counter the lost sheep with the prodical son.
It seems he was strong enough to turn back and go home.

Why did he go back home?
Because he realised outside of the Fathers house there was no provision and only loneliness. So he resolved to go back to his dad as a servant.

Jesus seeks out his sheep gone astray.

As N.T believers we have the Holy Spirit in us.
So when we go astray he is actually with us.
Reminding us of whom we are.
Yes we may sit in a pig pen for a while, but who is it that resolves and works to bring us back?

Answer on a postcard for that one.

If as a result of the death of Jesus and placing faith in him and then we could say we have no sin why would he have to die?

Afterall he could have said "I have taught you all these things, all these commandments, keep them all and you will be ok, break one then it's hell, do now I don't have die, see ya at some time, but woe betide you if you fail"

In a sense those who say that the only sins forgiven on the cross were our past sins.
Yet I wasn't born when Jesus died on the cross.
So when I placed my faith in him, only my past sins were forgiven and not the sins I may commit.

If that's the case why is Jesus interceding for me in heaven.
Afterall when I have placed my faith in him and am justified he would not need to intercede for me because I no longer sin.

And if I sin, it's a past tense, already happened.
So why confess that sin in order to be forgiven?
Afterall Jesus died on the cross for our past sins.

We confess our sins, which basically means "That we agree, acknowledge that we have sinned"

So in a sense we have no future sins until they have been committed.
Therefore the cross covers it.

Anyone who uses future sins as an excuse to sin is foolish, even if they are genuine belivers.
As genuine belivers we should never ever say it's ok I'm forgiven.
Paul addressed this.

But genuine belivers who struggle with sin, acknowledge their sin, realise that they may sin tomorrow will call out to Jesus for help and deliverance.

Reliance on the one who delivers us.

Go (John 8:11) to (John 3:17) hell (Book of Matthews)

if people take this as a commandment, that will be a disaster

because it's taken out of context ...

here is the context
John 8:11 - neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more
John 3:17 - Jesus came not to condemn the world but to save the world through him

We will not be held accountable for things we dont know...God tells us tgat if we seek Him..we will find..if i pray..have an intimate relationship with him..pray for insight and decernment when i read His word...He will GIVE me that and ill be able to decern who the false teachings are...
