You found a way.:) That is the America way. That is what is lacking today. When things do not go as expected people go with a hand out.
I was blessed by being born in the Arkansas hills. Never left. Never wanted to.
Never been to California. Don't think I missed anything by not going.

you didn't, the canneries that my family worked their whole life for are gone. Social Security that I thought was my retirement money in the bank is now regarded like welfare. Either i've been lied to all of my life or I've been swindled either way I'm angry.

I wasn't complaining about our circumstances. I used what I personaly know or knew to be true just a few months ago,to me 2016 was just a few months ago to me. My cost of living hasn't changed much, neither has my income. I'm not struggling to get by with what little I get any more, and I don't get waken by gun shots and sirens very often but that's why we came here.
Why so much anger at the government calibob? You father may have died broke, but at least you had one. My dad died 6 mos. before I was born and a sister died 1 mo. before. I was born severely asthmatic and wasn't expected to live. My mother wouldn't even bond with me afraid I would die also.

My mother got a pretty good job but she was the only one that got paid well out of two houses with about 20 young adults and kids. All this in South-Central L.A. We made our own bad luck, but most of us came out of the dysfunction pretty well. Out of 5 uncles only 1 was able to get a HS diploma. He got that in the Air Force which he joined as a teenager. Thankfully he could read, no so with my other uncles. I used to read them the Motor Manual when I was about 7-8. I think they were dyslexic.

Most of the uncles, my brother and myself got pretty good paying jobs working in unionized bakeries. That lifted most of us out of our poverty for the next generation. My mother finally got out of the ghetto when she retired in 1980. She had already bought property in North-Central Arkansas to retire to. I think we were able to climb out of a bad situation because we lived in a blessed country. This country has worse things than bad government going on. The moral decline is what we will have to pay for. Just look at the jungles our inner cities have become.

We would have been better off if we had never called ourselves Christian. Unfortunately we have called ourselves that from the onset. Just look at Amos chs. 4-6 to see the judgment coming to the "Mountain of Samaria." Which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came! If you don't see the USA in this you are not looking. Are we not chief of the nations?

Kroger is second only to Walmart in grocery sales. Operates under several names, but Kroger here in Arkansas.
Kroger employees are unionized, pay union dues, but make less than Walmart.
Walmart here in Arkansas starts all new employees at $12 per hour. My neighbors wife has worked at Walmart for 10 years and makes over $17 an hour as a night stocker.
She gets paid holidays, 3 weeks vacation, employee discounts and receive over $2000 in bonus pay last year.
Don't know why your friend only makes $10 per hour.
Don't rely on the internet for information on pay scales.
The closes Walmart to me is 35 miles, so I very seldom shop there. Maybe 2 or 3 times a year.
I have never been in a union nor have I dealt with one as a business owner.
My only concern with unions is when a person is forced to join or pay dues just to work.
If you want to join a union, that is your choice, but no one should be forced to join or pay dues just to have a job.

I think a lot of things should be considered when determining a starting wage. One size does not fit all.
That is one of the lies they tell you no one is force to join a union unless the company they are applying for is in contract with the union that is only common sense.. the monthly dues far out weigh the return only a fool would not want great benefits and pension and have the protection of the union. sorry but no one here that works for wal marts make what you say the people you know make not even close. here are the fact for your area.

The internet site you are getting your Walmart info probably has not been updated in a while.
Of course everything posted on the internet is always true and factual.
Walmart's benefits and pay scale exceeds what most retailers offer.
We are talking about unskilled retail workers here.

Arkansas is a right to work state. Kroger has a contract with a union, but no one can be forced to join or pay dues to that union. Some choose to do so and some do not.
In some states like California, those employees will be forced to join when the employer has a contract with a union.
They have no choice. Either join or they can not work for that employer.

In California that does not apply to part time or temp workers which is part of the reason why so many employers don't hire full time.

The unions have gone too far, the demands have become unreasonable and they've chased jobs away.

I sorry but I live in Philly PA. and our cost of living is much higher and wal marts abuse there workers and there pay sticnks.

Those that choose not to be in the union should not receive the same benefits that the union fought for for years We walked picked lines our families where beaten in public as we fought for 40 hour work weeks, over time, health care , pensions. paid time off.
none of these things where here until the unions formed. Oh you mean the right to make less state and be abused by employer state and be controlled by corporate pig them that states.

Ask the wisconsin teachers how that is working for them there education has fallen and teachers are leaving the state and they can get no good teachers to teach for them ahhhhhh they diserve it.

My father was a fish cannery worker 38 yrs as well as his older brother and Dad also became a Union Shop Steward. All of my uncles on my mothers side were longshoremen and so were their cousins. They fought with crate hooks and ball bats against the LAPD goon squad run by a corperate syndicate now called the pacific maritime assn. They even ran brothels and gambling joints in the 30s and 40s [look up LAPD SHOTGUN SQUAD if you don't believe me] The PMA or what ever they were called back then used to bring in union busters by the truck loads to work for peanuts. I'm with you Dem federal laws were enacted to protect union workers from thugs and Gestapo tactics of privatly owned police like the Pinkertons. At least in places like New York, Orleans and Chicago the Cops, The Mob and the Unions were on the same side. Except of corse those that were sympathetic to the KKK which was I beleive was the first terrorist recognized by the FBI as such! Fred Trump was arrested for participating in a KKK rally in NYC about 90 years ago.

If it weren't for those ball busting, tough as nails types. things like overtime pay, after 40 hrs or on holidays. disabilty insurance for full time employees may never have been made into law. Yes federal labor laws have followed the union model. I'm very touchy on this subject, my father died of ALD. Asbestos Lung Disease from rebuilding cottage sized steamers and boilers during the slow season, my uncle Woody died of the same thing 2 mos. earlier. They both got hired on the same day. Woody was 1 year older than dad and probably had a weaker immune system. Woodie didn't smoke, he dipped dad was healthy when he quit smoking, but died of lung cancer 20 years later, both of them? All most the same time?:poop:

I know and admit that some unions have been taken over by mobs, I'm sorry but some of those in power have formed a new kind of mob. I'll use wal mart for example because they as obvious as black eye and bloody nose on our nations face. There are many more. At 7-11, I'd make 2x the money I'd rather work 40 hrs than 20! The Waltons cheezed out when they realized they could hire 2or3 people part time to do the work that 1 person could full time and rather than give them benifits required by law, send them to social services for food stamps [that will also be spent at wal mart] MEDICAIDE for prescriptions [also filled at wall mart]

The people live at near slave labor wages and the governent has to foot the bill with tax money that we provide. not even as a Christian I cannot stand by and keep silent. I will quit my speach as most people now have less attention span than i takes to have a bowel movement. calibob

Hillary Clinton is going to make another go for highest office in 2020. She's reportedly taking campaign donations now. And that she illegally funneled the balance remaining in the last campaign into her family fund, one can only guess if she's serious about the effort to its conclusion. Or if she's just all about the money. Again.

Bernie Sanders is going to make a go of it also. I predict he'll actually gain the Democrat side of the ticket as a reward for his bowing out as the last opponent to Hillary's ascent to the nomination in 2016.

It appears the Democrats are openly socialist now. But the party itself at its head has always been an enemy of the Republic. Pray for America and that the Republican party gains a majority in both houses for years to come.

I notice a great many young people claim to be for Socialism. But few know what it is.
They should move to a socialist country and try to survive for a year and see if they change their mind in time to vote in 2020.

I don't understand why so many christians align themselves to the republican party and Trump, I could go on and on about how much he reminds me of Musolini, how corrupt his business practices are and how much the far right wing remind me of Nazis. Is it, can it be because he's rich? They think that makes him godly? Are people still living with a Korean war mentality and think that all democrats are communists but that the John Birch society is christian? I'm so disqusted that if I let myself speak from the anger that rages within I would likely get kicked off of CC for the language I'd use.

a $75 private doctors visit costs over $600 in the ER for people who can't afford to see a doctor but we have 170 billion to fight in places that we shouldn't give a hoot about. Is it for Opium? Oil? What is so important to fight for that my grandkids can't afford to go to College like kids in Western Europe do? I'd bet a dollar to a dime if you asked 10 people at Wal Mart, where poor people shop, what socialism is about? 8 would be all wrong and 1 would be 1/2 right.

Sounds like a self-made bumper sticker.
But regardless of the hand on the keyboard, it does not distract from the fact that behind the curtain that observation applies in full to the Democrat party. It was Democrats, particularly Teddy Kennedy, who pushed for Socialized medicine in this country. And it is an abject failure.

The Democratic Party's history reaches back to 1828. Maybe study to see what it is all about for real.

The failure is in not have socialized medicine. Maybe a study in socialized medicine is needed we already know the lies from the ones who label everyone who wants it.

Yes, we do. Naive.
I have lived in countries where there is socialized medicine. I suspect you have either not done so, or you're taking the pro-SM approach to interject counter dialog.

American's are aware socialized medicine costs here.
Canadian's are certainly so. And those in Great Britain are absolutely without doubt aware of what it costs to have government in control of health care.
The nanny state has always been a failed model.
