How does the Holy Spirit work in our life?

By enabling us to live like Christ, and giving us the power to overcome the flesh to abstain from sin, which a Spirit led life will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh, for they have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

The Bible says we need not any person teach us the word, but the Spirit will teach us, and guides us in to all truth, and show us things to come.

So the Spirit causes us to live a life that is pleasing to God, and understand His spiritual truth that people in the Old Testament could not attain.

What part did the Holy Spirit play in old testament times?

They could not have the Spirit in the Old Testament like in the New Testament, but the Spirit still moved upon them to do things, like the Spirit came upon Samson and he whipped many Philistines, but they could not be perfected spiritually like in the New Testament, only to do physical acts, which the Spirit enabled Israel to win at war against their enemies.

How does the Cross make the work of the Holy Spirit possible?

Because it is all about receiving the Spirit, for that is our salvation, for nobody can be right in the eyes of God without them being led of the Spirit, and the blood of Christ washing away our sins enables us to be able to receive the Spirit.

In the Old Testament they were not right with God spiritually, for the blood of bulls and goats cannot completely wash away sins, but when Jesus' blood was shed then the Old Testament saints had their sins completely washed away, and then they had the Spirit.

What is the Anointing of the Holy Spirit?

When someone was anointed with oil in the Old Testament, they were declared to be set apart or consecrated for holy use by God (Exodus 25:6; Leviticus 8:30; Numbers 4:16).

chrisma
khris'-mah
From G5548; an unguent or smearing, that is, (figuratively) the special endowment (“chrism”) of the Holy Spirit: - anointing, unction.

I would say the anointing is the Spirit working in our life as we dedicate our life to Christ.

Our salvation only comes from receiving the Spirit, and the blood of Christ causes us to be able to receive the Spirit.

Hey! Message of the Cross... PTL! : )

Jn 14:16 "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another comforter, that he may abide with you for ever."
Jn 16:7 "Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you."
Jn 14:26 "But the comforter, which is the Holt Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things unto your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."
Jn 15:26 "But when the comforter is come, whom I will send un to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me."
Jn 16:13 "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come."
So, in the above scriptures, we can see that the Holy Spirit was sent from the Father and will teach us all things. He speaks not of himself, but brings whatever Jesus said unto our remembrance to testify of Jesus.

Jn 16:8-11 "And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment. Of sin because they believe not on me; of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged."
The Holy Spirit reproves the world of sin: tells us that the Holy Spirit convicts the lost person of their sin as the Lord is calling that person to himself. He reproves the world of righteousness, since Jesus is with the Father and we see him no more. This is how the Holy Spirit fulfills the whole purpose of the NT by writing the scriptures that we study onto the tables of our hearts and minds transforming us into Jesus' moral image and we do righteousness because we have been change from the inside out. And the Holy Spirit reproves the devil and his demons when they cross our path for they have been judged by the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Jn 5:8 "And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one."
The Holy Spirit uses the water, which is the word of God and the blood to minister Jesus to the lost for salvation and to the church for righteousness. The Holy Spirit makes the word to be Jesus to us, Spirit to spirit, and we learn of him. He also shows us things to come too.

1 Cor 12:13 "For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit."
It is the Holy Spirit that ministers the true baptism to the church, along with the day to day operation of the body of Christ.

Eph 4:30 "And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption."
When one grows to maturity and walks in the Spirit, denying the lusts of the flesh and is ministering an anointing slowly grows and grows. This anointing is a physical manifestation of the Lord's presence resting upon that person and is felt by all who come near. The anointing is withdrawn by sin which grieves the Holy Spirit. Its like he gets hurt rather than angry at us when we stumble so.

Maranatha!

As carnal beings trying to understand non- material concepts, Christ I believe gave information digestible to the generation of His day. Now I think with the advance of science, technology and a broader understanding of energy and matter, new analogies would assist comprehension. Because so many Christians have thrown out their anchor in the sea of knowledge, they remain steadfast in their rudimentary understanding of Scripture. Fearful of ridicule and blasphemy, people avoid examination of what the Bible actually says. Even if I explained it, detail by detail, most here will scoff and reject the most obvious claims because people are arrogant and despise change.

The book of "James" says, "Faith without works is dead." My question is, will God accept works that is not produce, birth, and powered by the Holy Spirit?

It is written we are to do the works "of God." God will give you the works, be they spectacular such as healing or revelations, or, be they the humble works most do such as praying, loving all, simply waiting for Jesus..........His works are not the works we devise but what He allows us....

Hey! MessageOfTheCross... PTL!
Faith is that form of believing that is only based upon the illuminated word of God and will always produce works appropriate to repentance. Works without faith, done with even the best of intentions are the stench of filthy rages to the Lord's nostrils because "without faith it is impossible please him."

What do you think that means? How do you apply those verses to your life? What actions do you take? Do you think we are to go about doing our will with the faith God will manifest our desires by believing? Do you think we are to dedicate or lives doing charitable works in the name of Christ, with the faith that our rewards are in a time to come?

The reason I ask is because it is easier to write down a verse than it is to apply it, and the point of it being written is the latter. Are we the Body of Christ in title or in deed?

Have you wondered about the metaphysical aspects of faith? Are you familiar with the experiments that conclude how the conscious thoughts of the experimenters effect results at a quantum level. Also those who study the paranormal find baffling correlation with the thoughts of individuals instigating an unexplainable event. Even self help gurus are fully aware that believing precedes receiving, and first you must hold it in your mind before you hold it in your hand.

Is it possible that the faith of the Saints is more instrumental in the return of the Messiah than we understand? As Christ blamed lack of faith for few miracles performed in His hometown, is it our belief that healings don’t happen as much, stifle the power of the Spirit? Is it possible that our bodies and brains are more like generators and radio transmitters that create a frequency possible to form a conduit into the Spiritual realm? Is this not what the occult does? Is there a parallel between how our body uses stem cells to become what is needed? Is our soul to our physical body what the Spirit is to this Universe? Are we all just like cells each doing our duty in an effort for cosmic homeostasis? Just as everything in the body is both physical, orchestrated by what seems to be energetic, or spiritual, is that what was meant by the Oracle of Delphi, “Understand yourself then you will understand the gods and the Universe?” Is separation from God like when our cells no longer function in concert with the rest of our body, reproducing uncontrollably and causing disease? Is “the fall” synonymous with cancer to the planet? Does love for fellow man combat the spreading of this “disease”? Does commercialism promote it? I guess this all ties in to what exactly is the role of the common follower of Christ. What are we and why are we here? I’m sort of sorry for the rant but I guess I have a lot of questions. There is more to The Holy Spirit than what one would equate to a fraction of the Trinity.

Hey! Hungry... PTL!
You've asked a lot of questions, so I'll answer the one where you ask, why are we here?
We're here to be loved by the Lord and to love him in return.

Hey! MessageOfTheCross... PTL!
That would be faith in Jesus, who is the Word made flesh. The Holy Spirit illuminates the scriptures to minister Jesus, transformation and renewal, and faith to those who are born from above.

How does the Holy Spirit work in our life?

What part did the Holy Spirit play in old testament times?

How does the Cross make the work of the Holy Spirit possible?

What is the Anointing of the Holy Spirit?
1) The Holy Spirit leads our consciences, reminds us of scripture, and marks us for salvation (which can be taken away if we're not careful).

2) Because of their obedience, God gave 144,000 of them the Holy Spirit and postponed their sin debt till the cross. But God took the Holy Spirit away from Saul, the first king of Israel, because he disobeyed Him.

3) Example: at some restaurants you receive your food before you pay, and at others you receive your food after you pay, but payment must be met. If Jesus didn't die on the cross to pay for our sins, we would never receive the Holy Spirit.

4) Giving someone a specific capability.

Mostly good...however, one can walk in the Spirit from the beginning of our walk. It is not a maturity issue but a blood of Christ thing. Of course as we mature we will be able to REMAIN in the Spirit for longer periods.

Hey! Latour... PTL!
As I see it:
Heb 5:12-6:2 "For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again that which be the first principals of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk; and not of strong meat. For everyone that useth milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Therefore leaving the principals of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, of the doctrines of baptisms, and of the laying on of hands, and of the resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment."
We come to the Lord as we are; full of cravings from being enslaved to the sins that we have given ourselves to before Christ. Milk is for those who are unskilled in the word of righteousness, where strong meat is for those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Now in the above passage, we can see that even those who were no longer babes; go back to being babes rather than being teachers as they ought to be. We have to stay in the word to maintain our repentant heart that has been purged from dead works to serve the living God. To walk in the Spirit is to deny the lusts of the flesh, so that living with a sin in one's life is not denying the lusts of the flesh. One clear sign of a person who is walking in the Spirit is a heart that has joy unspeakable and full of glory.

The book of "James" says, "Faith without works is dead." My question is, will God accept works that is not produce, birth, and powered by the Holy Spirit?
In James when it speak of faith without works is dead. This means in my opinion: to step out and believe in what you can't see or feel. Like when Abraham took is son Isaac to sacrifice him. He loved his son but because God told him to do it, he did. Because he had faith that God would give him back to him some way. Without faith, I don't believe he could have done it. Walking into the faith is the works of faith. Believing in something you can't see.
